Description

Mick Jagger’s first visit to Japan, which shook the Japanese archipelago before the Stones. A compilation of TV programs that vividly revives the unforgettable “Spring of 1988” has been decided to be released. This work contains a number of TV programs that were broadcast at the time of Mick’s visit to Japan. We have previously introduced a similarly titled title, “JAPAN TOUR 1988,” but this work is different. It is an extended version that has been greatly increased by nearly 30 minutes. The content of this work is composed of 14 different types of footage, from news programs that only featured him for a moment to special programs. The recordings are in chronological order of broadcast and can be roughly divided into the following five types. Let’s take a closer look at each one, including a review of the previous version. [March 7: Narita Arrival Document (2 types)] First, we will introduce the announcement of his visit to Japan on a news program and the morning variety show “Good Morning! Nice Day” on “March 7” when he actually arrived at Narita Airport. The scene of the airport crowded with media and fans in a commotion brings the atmosphere of the era into reality. Furthermore, in the comments from the studio, Mr. Kameâ—‹da, a Stones fan, talks about a very 80s feeling, saying, “I’m not Horowitz, but I wanted to see Mick a little earlier,” while an out-of-place commentator says nonsense like, “I guess Japan is the last place to make money.” This misunderstanding is also the best. [March 8: Press Conference (3 types)] Next is the press conference held the next day at the ANA Hotel in Akasaka. “You at 3 o’clock,” “News Station,” and “Good Morning! Nice Day.” The first shock is “You at 3 o’clock.” A general living room program hosted by the great Showa era actress, Moriâ—‹ko, was broadcast with almost no time lag under the title “Rock Superstar Mick Jagger Finally Comes to Japan.” This alone conveys the huge shock of his first visit to Japan, and Mori-san is amazing. “It’s easy to remember in Japan. Let’s remember it as ‘nikujaga’,” “Rock’s nikujaga. It’s like eating it in Asakusa,” he repeats over and over. Mori-san is wonderful, and even with this outrageous statement, he somehow makes you smile. The other presenter, Noma Ohei, is also touched by his serious attitude, who does not respond and tries to change the topic. Another amazing thing is the “News Station” broadcast on the day. In addition to the press conference footage, the program’s own edit of “Satisfaction” is played. It is a live video of the 1969 Hyde Park performance, but it is overlaid with topic footage from the time of release (1965). The topics are “Fuel loading at Tokaimura Nuclear Power Plant,” “Fighting Harada becomes world champion,” “Narita confirmed as New Tokyo International Airport,” etc. The idea of conveying the feeling of the times to the viewers is very news program-like, and this is an extremely rare version that was only possible because it was an “incident” that involved the general public. “Good Morning! Nice Day” airs on March 9th, the day after the press conference, and it’s great to be able to watch the press conference for a long time. It’s also amazing when you move to the studio. When the commentator says, “He was smiling and friendly, which was different from the image I had in mind,” Shintaro Kurimoto, who is a real fan, replies, “No, no, he’s quite a dangerous guy.” This “Don’t underestimate our Mick” smug face… “Even though you look like that, our senior is scary,” is very understandable, but it’s also embarrassing. [March 10th: Long interview / 12th: Last minute announcement (2 types)] The familiar “Best Hits USA with Mick Jagger.” Recorded on “March 10th” and aired two weeks later on March 23rd. This week, the chart introduction is aired at the end (the lineup is also very period-like), and almost the entire program is a special feature on Mick. Even the unusual structure alone conveys a special feeling. At the beginning, the live performance of “Under My Thumb” from “June 25, 1982: Wembley, London” (audio is from the official version) is played, but even more than that, the long interview is wonderful, and there is no other interview video of this length at this time. Moreover, the content is also special. Even if you just pick up a little bit… “I proceeded carefully so that something like 15 years ago would not happen again,” “I don’t do long-distance marathons. In fact, it’s unhealthy,” “I don’t do choreography. I don’t care about my image. I’m just myself,” “Sometimes I get tired of rock,” “Rock is a momentum. If you do it many times, you get stuck in a mold,” “I studied economics and political science at school. I should have done accounting instead (laughs),” “I was worried when I chose my path. I didn’t think it would turn out like this,” “When you program a drum machine, you have to sing along with it. Nowadays, everyone is mechanical,” and so on. You can see a lot of sincere “Mick the musician” that is completely different from the general public program. ★New footage 1★ There are two new scenes that were not seen last time. The first is a performance scene inserted between interviews. There was a live video of “Under My Thumb” in the previous video, but this time, five more songs, “Throwaway,” “Say You Will,” “Jumpin’ Jack Flash,” “Hard Woman,” and “One Hit (to the Body),” will be shown uncut. It’s not very valuable, but the real-time feeling of watching the PVs many times back then is overwhelming. ★New video No. 2★ The second new video is “All Night Fuji,” recorded after “Best Hit USA.” The video is just a re-edited version of the Narita and press conferences, but it is a vivid announcement just before the first day of the performance, such as a studio talk where the band asks, “Are you going to see it?” [March 15th: Osaka performance / March 20th: Postponement announcement (3 types)] Here is a precious video of the pros’ visit to Japan! This is “Throwaway” from the “March 15th: Osaka Castle Hall” performance. It’s just a short one-camera video with a program narration, but it’s a treasure that allows you to see Mick’s historic Japanese premiere in a professional shot. Even more shocking is the postponement notice that was broadcast on March 20th. It was broadcast during the live broadcast of the Hanshin vs Nankai exhibition game and during a horse racing program. It’s heartwarming that the Hawks are “Nankai”, but the contents of the notice are also too vivid. Let me write it out for a moment. “The rescheduled performance scheduled for today by Mick Jagger has been canceled due to his condition not improving. The next rescheduled performance will be held on Monday, March 28th at Osaka Castle Hall.” This wording is surprising, but the fact that it was recorded is also surprising. This work is a recording by a record enthusiast, but I wonder if they kept recording the broadcast for this notice (!?)… It is true that at the venue on March 19th, an announcement was made that “we will inform you with a notice,” but there is no way to know what time it was. It’s a formidable maniac spirit. [March 22: Tokyo performance (4 types)] This is also a very rare pro shot! This is “News Station” broadcast on the Tokyo premiere “March 22”. Suddenly, along with the beautiful Koâ—‹ Etsuko, who is so beautiful that she can die, “Mick has come to the Tokyo Dome!”, the second song on the day, “Throwaway” plays for about 3 minutes! Of course, the live performance on this day will be broadcast on TV, but this is a completely diff video for this occasion only! The multi-camera footage and the high-quality microphone sound are both original. Furthermore, Mr. Hisaâ—‹ Hiroshi’s comments are interesting. “Well, one of the points of rock music is the volume of the sound, but I think you can see that this makes recording even more difficult. It’s quite different from the sense of realism,” he says, almost like a bootleg commentary (laughs). In addition, “Good Morning! Nice Day”, which features a different version of “Throwaway” from “News Station”, is also included. The handwritten words “50,000 people singing 22 songs in a fever!” are thrilling, and the scenes sandwiched between super rare professional shots are also documented. The sight of fans getting excited with the air band while waiting for the show to start, and an older woman looking at them suspiciously (you came to see it too?) are also intense, and among the excited celebrities are some who have already passed away… ★New Footage 3★ Finally, two new videos have been added. First, “All Night Fuji” again. This was broadcast on the day of the Nagoya performance (March 26th) and is an announcement of the concert broadcast scheduled for March 27th (you can enjoy the original broadcast on our store’s “MICK JAGGER IN TOKYO DOME: TV BROADCAST 1988”). Calling the Tokyo Dome “Big Egg”, female talents read scripts so haltingly that you wonder if they’re drunk, recruiting female college students on public airwaves, and now-famous painter Tsuruta Kataoka acting like a thug… though it’s short, scenes that are unthinkable today burst out one after another. ★New footage #4★ The very last footage is also new, Terumi Yoshida’s “VIDEO MAGAZINE”. All performances have already ended, and Yoshikazu Torii and Yone Matsukane talk about Mick, and gather regular customers at a bar for a roundtable discussion. The comments from the review session are realistic, but it’s the studio talk that’s funny. Mari Okada, who was still in her 20s, asks, “Why was your visit to Japan canceled in 1973?” Terumi Yoshida is flustered and unable to answer. Well, it’s true that even in 1988, you have to think carefully about whether it’s okay to say “It was because you were smoking marijuana” on public airwaves. The above is a total of 14 historical testimonials, spanning 1 hour, 13 minutes and 16 seconds. It is nearly 30 minutes longer than the previous version, which was very popular, and even if you don’t know about the time, it is an interesting documentary film, and the deeper your memories, the more the scent of the era tickles your nose. A collection of professional shots of Mick’s first visit to Japan has been released. This is a compilation of TV programs broadcast in Japan at the time, and includes 14 different types of footage. It is a historical masterpiece of about 73 minutes that boasts the same level of excitement as a documentary film.MICK JAGGER – JAPAN TOUR 1988 JAPANESE TV SPECIALS(DVD) (73:16) 1.
