Description

The “G.Mann” collection is a series of shocking masters of HR/HM. Their latest work, a real live album where you can experience MSG right after their debut, is now available. This work was recorded at “Springfield Performance on November 5, 1980”. This is an audience recording recorded during the US tour immediately after his debut. Michael Schenker is a guitarist whose research has not progressed contrary to his name value, and tour materials are also vague, especially in the early days of MSG. Therefore, I will omit the usual schedule, but the debut work “God (The Return of the Flying Arrow)” was produced from May to July 1980, and released in August 1980. . Around the same time, they started touring from the UK, and landed in the US at the end of October…and so on. In other words, the Springfield performance of this work is about three months after its debut, and it is the first of several performances that have just begun its invasion of North America. This US tour is famous for sound board recordings such as Erie performance (11/20) and Los Angeles performance (12/22), but this work is much earlier. This work recorded at such a show is a vintage audience with a delicious sense of the scene. Although it is called the “G.Mann” collection, it is not a recording by the man himself (he seems to live alone, so it would be impossible to record on an expedition to North America), so the genealogy is unknown, but there is no sense of distance in the powerful core, The detail and direct feel are perfect. Even more strange is the audience noise. Between songs, one or two voices come in, so it seems like there are people, but you can’t even feel them during the performance. Nothing intervenes between the extremely thick performance sound, and while you are immersed in it, you almost forget the fact that you are an audience member. What is depicted with such direct sound is MSG’s passionate performance, which has begun to accelerate at an accelerated pace. This day was the opening act for MOLLY HATCHET, so it was about 45 minutes long, but the short time was packed with excitement and famous songs. Let’s organize the special set here. “God” number (6 songs)・Armed And Ready/Cry For The Nations/Victim Of Illusion/Feels Like A Good Thing (★)/Into The Arena/Lost Horizons UFO number (3 songs)・Natural Thing (★)/ Doctor Doctor/Lights Out (★) *Note: Songs marked with a “★” cannot be heard on the official traditional edition “Hishou Densetsu”. …and it looks like this. The UK leg at the beginning of the tour was a full set of 13 songs (you can enjoy it on the reprinted “DERBY 1980”), but here it has been carefully selected to 9 songs. Although the show for just one LP is a little lacking, the heat of the performance more than makes up for it. Although it is still early days, the level of proficiency has clearly improved, and Cozy Powell’s beats are lively and unrelenting, and he has added his own unique side effects that liven up the song with repeated hits. You can clearly see that Gary Burden has become familiar with the lyrics, and he is very bold when it comes to each occurrence, and he also shows the ability to stir up the audience as a frontman. And Michael Schenker’s brilliance shines so brightly that the background becomes solid. Both solos and oblises are crisp and crisp, and while keeping the basic melody in check, he plays with the details and keeps playing. I have the image of a person who is faithful to arranged melodies, but even when Michael improvised these days, his phrases came out one after another with a high degree of perfection, as if they had been thought through. This is a live album where that inspiration oozes out and overflows. This is just an opening performance, and it is still in the process of development. In that sense, it’s a bit maniacal, but it’s a live album that’s interesting because it’s a developmental stage, and it’s interesting to see how it grows with each performance. I fully recommend the aforementioned sound board and Reimei’s masterpiece “DERBY 1980”, but this work is a perfect one to take a step forward from there. Newly discovered audience recording of “November 5, 1980 Springfield Performance”. There is no sense of distance to the powerful core, and the detail and direct feel are perfect. Furthermore, the voices of the surrounding audience are strangely low, and nothing interjects between them and the extremely thick performance sound. It’s such a direct sound that you almost forget that you’re an audience member while you’re immersed in it. It’s a short set of about 45 minutes for the opening act, but the ensemble, which has grown by leaps and bounds since the UK tour just after MSG started, is lively and unrelenting, and Michael is also sharp. This is a live album full of inspiration that shows the genius’s true potential. Live at Civic Center, Springfield, MA, USA 5th November 1980 TRULY AMAZING SOUND (45:44) 1. Armed and Ready 2.
