Description
Dumpstaphunk, the current top New Orleans funk/jam band that inherits the DNA of the Neville family, the strongest musicians in New Orleans, has released a live performance featuring the original Meters as guests to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the release of the Meters’ masterpiece “Rejumination,” the greatest New Orleans funk album, for the first time! ! Dumpstaphunk, which is currently one of the most popular jam bands along with Snarky Puppy, is celebrating the 50th anniversary of the release of the historic masterpiece “Rejumination,” which is called the greatest New Orleans funk album, released by The Meters in 1974 on the Reprise label. This two-disc set contains a complete recording of the intensely groovy historic live performance at the Civic Theater in New Orleans on May 2, 2024, featuring original Meters members George Porter Jr., Leo Nocentelli, and Cyril Neville, with over two hours of superb high-quality sound that has been carefully mastered by the label! The set list was literally everything from “Rejumination” to other Meters hits, New Orleans classics, and even their own originals! The opening started with a super cool drum break, and the second line funk unique to New Orleans exploded, the horns sounded great, and the band’s unity was exquisite and full of the most groovy sounds! Cyril joined as a member from the beginning, and Porter and Nocentelli joined from the fourth song, which is a development that fans of the Meters sound will love. Ivan’s organ was especially wonderful, perfectly recreating the original Meters sound and breathing new life into the songs, truly a new generation of New Orleans funk! Of course, Porter, Nocentelli, and Cyril are still active, and they generously create a groove that only they can do, and their enthusiasm to not lose to the younger generation is cool! The final encore was “Fire on the Bayou”, and although I’ve heard many different versions of this song up until now, this version might just be the best!!
