Two giants connected by eternal fate, METALLICA and MEGADETH. A special live set featuring these two giants standing side by side. 34 years have passed since Dave Mustaine was expelled from METALLICA. Throughout their long history, METALLICA and MEGADETH have performed together (not together) at the same events/festivals several times. However, unlike SLAYER and ANTHRAX, the number of times is surprisingly small. According to research by overseas enthusiasts, there were a total of 21 performances, which can be broadly divided into the following five categories. A: December 1985: New Year’s Eve event (1 performance) “NEW YEAR’S EVE 1985” B: June 1993: Reconciliation tour (5 performances) → “BULLSHIT IS OVER!!” C: July 1999: Woodstock 99 (1 performance) → “WOODSTOCK ’99: DIGITAL MASTER EDITION” D: June 2010-September 2011: Big 4 (13 performances) → “THE BIG 4 – SWEDEN 2011” E: June 2012: DOWNLOAD FESTIVAL (1 performance) → [This work] This is the history of the direct confrontation. You can see that there are only a few performances each except for “D” of the “THE BIG 4” project. As mentioned above, our shop has made all five close encounters into coupling titles, and this work is the latest 2012 version “E”. This work includes the performance of the “Download Festival June 9th + 10th, 2012”. This is a four-disc set that records the encounter at the holy land “Donington” with the best audience album and professional shots, with the METALLICA edition of the live album on disc 1-2, the MEGADETH edition on disc 3, and multi-camera professional shots on disc 4. [Disc 1-3: Audience Album] First of all, this is a live album that contains the full live performance. The quality is excellent for the outdoor audience. In the past, outdoor recordings could be blown away by the wind, but in today’s world where PA and recording equipment have developed, this is completely different. A huge PA tower was built for the distant audience, and the extremely thick sound can be recorded right next to them. Moreover, the clarity without any echo in the venue is as robust as a soundboard, and it is not disturbed by the noise in front of the stage. This work absorbs a lot of the “taste of the outdoors”. The show depicted with that quality is also wonderful. At that time, the two heroes were released about half a year after the release of “BEYOND MAGNETIC” and “TH1RT3EN”. They played plenty of the greatest hits of the golden age, including new songs. In particular, METALLICA performed all the songs of “BLACK ALBUM” (in reverse order) live! Of course, the reproduction live is also left in the pro shot, but Donington is a special “holy land” for METALLICA. They shout “Donington!” more than usual, and the call and response of “Donington & Metallica, Like a family!” and “Metallica’s Family!!” in “Enter Sandman” is a bit too much. It is a passionate performance that is thoroughly conscious of “Donington is special”. [Disc 4: Pro Shot DVD] Following such a full live album is the best pro shot. This year’s “DOWNLOAD FESTIVAL” was also the 10th anniversary, and a special program was broadcast. From that, METALLICA and MEGADETH parts were excerpted. METALLICA includes three songs, “Enter Sandman”, “For Whom The Bell Tolls” and “One”, while MEGADETH includes two songs, “Public Enemy No.1” and “Symphony Of Destruction”, and an interview with Mustaine. Although it is only five songs, this is a superb multi-camera pro shot with “super”. You can witness the “special Donington” felt in the live album with official-class visual beauty. Anyway, this work is a valuable record of “direct confrontation”. Five years have passed since this live, and the two heroes have not had a close encounter since this work. METALLICA loves the “sacred land of Donington”, and MEGADETH cannot help but be aware of such an “eternal rival”. Each one is not only a superb live album, but also a sound evidence of the “confrontation in the sacred land” that only happened once in a long history. Both METALLICA and MEGADETH are rare bands, but it is even more interesting because they lived in the same era and stood side by side.
