Description

In 1986, METALLICA was trampling the world with Cliff Burton and their historic album “MASTER OF PUPPETS”. The best sound board is now available. This work includes “May 29, 1986 Eau Claire performance”. This is the quasi-official soundboard recording. “Semi-official” is a somewhat unfamiliar word, but this work is not what you would call “half-official.” To put it into a general classification, it is a “broadcast sound board.” This is a stereo soundboard recording broadcast by the internet/satellite radio station “SiriusXM”. So, what is “semi-official”? That’s because the broadcast itself was completely supervised by the members. To begin with, this program was broadcast on “December 8, 2017.” The deluxe box set of “MASTER OF PUPPETS” had been released the month before that, and this was a promotion for that. That huge BOX contained a huge amount of sound board sound sources, but this work can be called an “outtake version” of that. It is an official soundboard that is not included in the BOX and is used for promotion. What’s more, this show also stars Lars Ulrich and James Hetfield. Even at the beginning of this work, Lars himself (in his usual tone: lol) provides a thorough explanation. Naturally, such a “semi-official soundboard” became a hot topic right after the broadcast, and became a huge hit as “EAU CLAIRE 1986”. It was sold out and out of print in an instant. Of course, it is impossible to leave the precious Cliff era sound board, which is the best thing with official approval, out of print. It must be available to anyone at any time. Therefore, it was re-released after trying to improve it once again. What is infused into this work is the very north of violent thrash metal. In fact, “DAMAGE, INC. TOUR” was not only about Cliff’s death, but also when James had a broken bone and John Marshall supported the guitar. Here, let’s check the show’s position from the schedule at that time. [“MASTER OF PUPPETS” released on March 3rd]・March 27th – June 21st: North America #1 (58 performances) ←★Here★・July 5th + 6th: Europe #1 (2 performances)・July 11th – 25th: North America #2a (11 performances) 《July 26th: James injured》 ・July 27th – August 3rd: North America #2b (6 performances) ・September 10th – 25th Sun: Europe #2 (12 performances) [September 26: James returns] / September 26: Stockholm performance [September 27: Cliff passes away] This is the progress from the release of “MASTER OF PUPPETS” until Cliff’s death. James suffered a broken bone in the latter half of July, and Marshall helped him in the subsequent races of “North America #2b” and “Europe #2.” The Stockholm performance where James also returned on guitar was strangely the last show during Cliff’s lifetime. The Eau Claire performance of this work takes place before all of these misfortunes occur. This was the 42nd concert of “North America #1″. The quality of this work that recorded such a show is exactly “semi-official”. “MASTER OF PUPPETS” also included an unprocessed and wild direct-to-the-table soundboard, but this work is also very similar. The brutal thrash metal is super direct and pours your brain into it. The edges of the riff are as sharp as ever, and Ra’s’ beat is super vivid. Of course, the genius Cliff Burton’s “(Anesthesia) Pulling Teeth” also comes to mind. In fact, I tried remastering it when it re-released, but the official finish was too vivid. We couldn’t make any major changes due to the subtext of the official box. Lars’s speaking part at the beginning has the same feel as the main story, and only a slight noise treatment that is difficult to understand even with headphones (about 2 and a half minutes at the end of “Seek & Destroy” was not recorded in the broadcast, so it was broadcast on May 23rd in Tulsa). Supplemented with the official SBD of the performance (previously the sound source of the Cape Girardeau performance on the 24th), so you can enjoy it seamlessly. To be honest, it is difficult to recommend it to those who have the previous edition “EAU CLAIRE 1986”, but it is the ultimate definitive sound. And what is depicted with that sound is an onslaught of thrash paradise. The aforementioned “MASTER OF PUPPETS” BOX featured three types of Cliff era soundboards, so let’s organize the sets while comparing them.・KILL ‘EM ALL: Seek & Destroy/(Anesthesia) Pulling Teeth(★)/Whiplash(★) ・RIDE THE LIGHTNING: For Whom The Bell Tolls/Fade To Black(★)/Creeping Death・MASTER OF PUPPETS: Battery/ Master Of Puppets/Welcome Home (Sanitarium)/The Thing That Should Not Be (★)/Damage Inc.・Cover: Am I Evil? *: The “★” mark is on the SBD of the East Rutherford performance/Hampton performance in the official box A song you can’t listen to. …and it looks like this. Although it cannot compete with the Chicago performance (2LP), which was the longest in BOX, there are 4 songs that cannot be heard in the East Rutherford performance / Hampton performance, which were recorded on 1 CD each. Especially delicious are “(Anesthesia) Pulling Teeth” where Cliff’s bass roars and the ultimate anthem “Whiplash”. The former’s avalanche into “Damage Inc.” is the most thrilling, and the latter’s effort to repair an ensemble on the verge of collapse is a huge success. Shit! It’s an intense performance that turns the initial impulse into a crunchy sound that hits your brain. For those who own the official BOX “MASTER OF PUPPETS”, this is a perfect complement to that blockbuster. If you don’t have it, it’s available as a trial version. And, even if it has nothing to do with BOX, it is the ultimate violent thrash album. A “semi-official” stereo soundboard album that is amazing no matter how you listen to it.
