Description

METALLICA has finally embarked on a full-scale tour. The introduction of Japanese drums has also been a hot topic, but a masterpiece video that fully records the latest show has been decided to be released. This work includes the “May 10, 2017 Baltimore performance”. It is an audience shot of the first day of the tour. You may hear someone say, “They’ve been touring since last year,” and that is certainly true. First of all, let’s check the position of this work in the whole picture of “WORLDWIRED TOUR 2016-2018”.・February-November 2016: Warm-up (11 shows) 《HARDWIRED… released on November 18, 2016》・November-December 2016: Promo show (4 shows)・January-April 2017: Asia/Northern Europe/North America #1/South America (15 shows)・May-August 2017: North America #2 (27 shows)←★Here★・September-November 2017: Europe #1 (15 shows)・February-May 2018: Europe #2 (24 shows) This is the tour schedule announced so far. It has already been announced up to May 2018, a year from now, and there is a possibility that more will be added. The Baltimore performance of this work is the first day of “North America #2”, but most of the live shows up to this point have been warm-ups and promo shows before the album’s release. Even though the tours were called “Asia/Northern Europe/North America #1/South America,” the dates were sporadic, with only 3-4 mini-tours at most. This “North America #2” was the first tour to have live shows every day. The quality of this work, which contains the first day of “North America #2,” is excellent. It is a shot looking down diagonally from the stand on the right side of the stage (Kirk Hammett side), with no obstructions. The screen is filled with only the stage, making it an excellent field of view. In fact, it is quite far away, and even at the most zoomed in, it is only the whole body, making it difficult to see the facial expression. However, this is not a disadvantage, but an advantage. The selling point of this METALLICA tour is the monster-like super-huge screen. Giant screens are commonplace in modern times, but this is a different order of magnitude. It is a super-huge screen that is almost the size of a 4-5 story building, and there are five of them lined up in a row. It’s impossible to appreciate this gigantic spectacle in a close-up shot. Of course, it captures not only the screen but also the huge crowd, so it’s not “for a long shot” but “because it’s a long shot”. What’s more, this huge screen also shows the smug faces of James Hetfield and Lars Ulrich, who are about 15 meters tall. There’s no need to zoom in in the first place. This latest spectacle show is really amazing. Anyway, the various productions are very powerful. In “Moth Into Flame”, a real wall of flames as tall as a person rises up and runs around the stage. Also, the huge screen stands out even more in Kirk and Robert Trujillo’s jam time. They also play rare phrases like “I Disappear”, but the bass solo in the second half is “Anesthesia (Pulling Teeth)”! Cliff Burton, who was as big as Ultraman, is projected on the huge screen and merges with Trujillo’s distorted phrases. And just when you think, “Let’s go with Whiplash…”, “Hit The Lights” explodes!! Expectations are dashed, but there’s no way I could complain about this choice! … Excuse me. Another surprising performance is “Now That We’re Dead”. It’s already been talked about in various places, but in the middle of the performance, a big Japanese drum was brought in and the four of them hit it together. This song has been a percussion time for the four of them for a while, but I never thought it would be a Japanese drum… This performance was the first day of the Baltimore performance of this work, but it has continued since then and it seems that they intend to make it a staple of the “WORLDWIRED TOUR”. The huge screen like a group of buildings is also a masterpiece shot of the latest METALLICA. It would be difficult to bring this to Japan… It’s a masterpiece among masterpieces that allows you to experience such a super spectacle to the fullest. This is the appearance of METALLICA, who still remains “the world’s best and the strongest metal band in human history”. In the spring of 2017, two of the four kings of thrash, MEGADETH and ANTHRAX, came to Japan together. This week, SLAYER’s latest stereo soundboard album “MAXIMUS FESTIVAL 2017 (Shades 737)” will also be released. There are no signs of the dream of “THE BIG 4 in JAPAN” coming true, but I would like to experience “the current four powerhouses” at once, even if it’s just a bootleg.
