Description

METALLICA’s “BLACK ALBUM” era is in the midst of a re-evaluation as it celebrates its 30th anniversary. Two leaked DAT masters of super-fine soundboards that were representative of that time but were not included in the official box set have been reissued. This is the first of two simultaneous releases. It is a super-class stereo soundboard recording of the “December 7, 1992 Den Bosch (‘s-Hertogenbosch) performance.” The world tour of the “BLACK ALBUM” era lasted for three full years, a historic super-large road divided into five sections. It was an era in which the members even said, “It was like I entered a school of live performances until I graduated.” Speaking of symbols of that, the San Diego and Mexico City performances of “LIVE SHIT: BINGE & PURGE” are also symbolic, so here we will organize the positional relationship of each from the overall picture of their activities. {“BLACK ALBUM” released on August 12th, 1991} *WHEREVER WE MAY ROAM Tour #1 (August 1991 – July 1992: 162 performances) *Official San Diego *GUNS/METALLICA Stadium Tour (July – October 1992: 25 performances/North America) *WHEREVER WE MAY ROAM Tour #2 (October – December 1992: 36 performances/Europe) *Here *NOWHERE ELSE TO ROAM Tour (January – July 1993: 77 performances) *Official Mexico City {“LIVE SHIT” released on November 23rd, 1993} *SHIT HITS THE SHEDS Tour (May – August 1994: 51 performances/North America)This is an overview of their activities during the “BLACK ALBUM” era. The Denbos performance in this work is the second half of the “WHEREVER WE MAY ROAM Tour” after the collaborative tour with GUNS N’ ROSES. It was the 30th and final concert. This show was left with a pro shot, and our “BLACK ASSAULT” shocked collectors around the world. This work is not the sound drop … …. It is a DAT master directly handed over by the people involved at the time, and was once excavated as “BLACK DUTCH”. Although it is a different mouth from “BLACK ASSAULT”, it is a masterpiece among masterpieces that was directly digitized from a prestigious (?) leaked master. In fact, the content and sound are different, and although the opening “Enter Sandman” is from the middle, the sound surpasses the pro shot version. Unlike the video version, where the sound was disturbed in several places, you can enjoy almost the entire show with an ironclad direct-connected sound board. When this DAT master was discovered, a specialist magazine highly praised it, saying, “It’s the best sound in Metallica bootleg history,” and “It’s missing about half of Sandman, but it’s super high quality sound that makes up for that.” At the same time, it was also described as “the cheers are too off, there’s no sense of realism,” and “(it’s too direct) the roughness of the play is too noticeable,” but even that spoke of the awesomeness of the transcendent sound. This work is a soundboard album that precisely reproduces such an impact master, so the show depicted with such an ultra-close sound is different from “LIVE SHIT: BINGE & PURGE”. Let’s organize the set here while comparing it with the two official performances. Black Album・Enter Sandman/Sad But True/Wherever I May Roam/Of Wolf And Man/The Unforgiven/Through The Never/Nothing Else Matters Others・Bloodstained Hammer: Seek & Destroy/Whiplash/Motorbreath・Ride the Lightning: Creeping Death/For Whom The Bell Tolls/Fade To Black・Metal Master: Welcome Home (Sanitarium)/Master Of Puppets/Damage Inc.(★)・Metal Justice: Harvester Of Sorrow/Justice Medley/One・Cover: Am I Evil?/Last Caress/Breadfan(★)※Note: The “★” mark indicates songs that were not heard at the San Diego and Mexico City performances of “LIVE SHIT: BINGE & PURGE”. …And so it goes like this. I’m happy to hear the now rare “Of Wolf And Man”, “Through The Never” and “Justice Medley”, but the encore of “Damage Inc.” and “Breadfan”, which I couldn’t hear officially, is delicious. Of course, historically it’s not that rare, but it’s great to enjoy the band’s potential in 1992, when they were at the peak of their “BLACK ALBUM” era and hadn’t yet burned out. The live band atmosphere is also great when they mix SCORPIONS’ “Rock You Like A Hurricane” in “Am I Evil?”. The video version “BLACK ASSAULT” was shocking, but the DAT master, which transcended in terms of sound quality, was also shocking. A masterpiece that can be called “underground side LIVE SHIT”. A superb stereo soundboard recording of the “December 7, 1992 Denbosch performance”. The DAT master was handed over directly to me by someone involved at the time, and is different from the pro shot of the same day. Although the opening “Enter Sandman” is from the middle, unlike the video version where the sound was disturbed in several places, you can enjoy the ironclad direct-connected sound board. “Damage Inc.” and “Breadfan”, which could not be heard at the official “LIVE SHIT: BINGE & PURGE” Mexico / San Diego performances, are also delicious. It is a masterpiece that can be called “LIVE SHIT on the underground side”. Live at Brabanthall, Den Bosch, Holland 7th December 1992 STEREO SBD(from Original Masters) Disc 1 1. Enter Sandman 2.
