This is a compilation of precious demo tracks from 1982 to the following year when Dave Mustaine was in the band, all compiled from stereo soundboard sources from the best master. Please refer to the detailed contents of each disc below. [DISC 1: Highly polished studio recordings First, we start with “Hit the Lights” from “METAL MASSACRE”, which was also their first recording, featuring Lloyd Grant. Then there are seven officially reissued songs from the legendary demo “NO LIFE ‘TIL LEATHER”, and finally “Whiplash” and “No Remorse”, which feature Mustaine and Cliff Burton, and these are the only studio recordings by the two of them. DISC 2: Garage recording demos This is a collection of demos recorded in Ron McGovney’s garage, and first of all, there are two cover songs from the tapes he sold to live houses when he started his live activities in March 1982. In addition, demos captured during rehearsals and practice sessions include a cover of Diamond Head and the first originals, such as “Hit The Lights” and “Jump In The Fire”. Furthermore, the four demos known as “POWER METAL” show James’ guitar playing has improved considerably, which resulted in the historic “NO LIFE ‘TIL LEATHER” three months later in July. DISC 3: Riff Tapes for Composing This disc is a compilation of the composition sessions. Over 50 minutes of tapes containing riffs and phrases instead of notes are included. The demo tracks, which total 2 hours and 31 minutes, seem to be led by Mustaine’s guitar, and it reaffirms that he was the key to Metallica’s sound in the early days.
