Description
The Great Trio, which features the rhythm section of the original members who produced the Metheny Group’s debut albums, 1978’s “San Lorenzo” and 1979’s “American Garage,” are famous for being the masterpieces that defined Pat Metheny’s popularity. Bassist Mark Egan and drummer Danny Gottlieb are joined by renowned guitarist John Abercrombie, who plays a wide variety of styles, from traditional four-beat jazz to technical jazz rock and funky organ trio performances, with his own unique tone and playing style based on his own theory. This two-disc set is the first to feature a complete recording of over an hour and a half of the first tour of the trio, which took place in Austria in September 2006 before the release of Mark Egan’s 2007 album “As We Speak.” The set features the original members who produced the Metheny Group’s debut albums, 1978’s “San Lorenzo” and 1979’s “American Garage,” which are famous for being the masterpieces that defined Pat Metheny’s popularity.
