Description

Texas Pop Festival is not only Led Zeppelin’s best soundboard album of 1969, but also an evergreen that conveys their wonderful live performance to all rock fans. When it was first released in 1991 on “PLAYS PURE BLUES,” it was a famous sound source that was very popular with everyone, but in recent years, it seems that the version in which the missing parts of the soundboard were filled in with audience recordings has become popular. Since it is a popular sound source, it felt like the technique had already been exhausted, but the masterpiece that took a new step was “TEXAS INTERNATIONAL POP FESTIVAL 1969 STEREO MATRIX” released last year. It was originally a two-track stereo recording (i.e., two microphones were set up on the stage), so it had a unique sound image in which Robert Plant’s vocals were pushed into one channel like the early Beatles. Last year’s release improved such a unique stereo image to a more natural state. The sound source, which was originally a standard for enthusiasts, was made into a full-length version by reusing audience recordings, and the effect of the groundbreaking method of improving the stereo image that everyone thought was “that’s it” while feeling uncomfortable was remarkable, and in addition, it was benefited by improving the discomfort between the sound board and the audience recording part. As a result, “TEXAS INTERNATIONAL POP FESTIVAL 1969 STEREO MATRIX” was sold out shortly after its release. Even the best version of “TEXAS INTERNATIONAL POP FESTIVAL 1969”, which previously contained only the sound board itself, was sold out in a flash, so it’s a classic. It’s natural that Texas Pop is one of the most desired among the re-releases of our ZEP items, which have been active recently, and re-release is inevitable. However, there was room for improvement in “TEXAS INTERNATIONAL POP FESTIVAL 1969 STEREO MATRIX”. It is true that the attempt to improve the balance peculiar to the original 2-track stereo recording was wonderful. The concept was to make Plant’s vocals, which were pushed into the left channel as mentioned earlier, sound from the center. However, it is also true that the result of the work was that the whole image was shifted to the right. If you think about it, it is inevitable that the whole image will shift to the right by moving the sound of the left channel to the center. So, for this re-release, we readjusted the image a little more to restore the bias. As a result, it was reborn as a more natural stereo image. The difference is obvious when you compare it with the previous version with headphones. Even though it is a stereo soundboard recording with the best sound quality, I can’t imagine that Page would officially release a sound source with 2-track recording technology. After all, the legend of the Texas pop masterpiece that began with “PLAYS PURE BLUES” should continue in the rare sound source world. As the latest version, this release is not just a simple reissue. Anyway, the sound quality is extremely clear in stereo, so you can enjoy the literally pure blues performance of songs such as “I Can’t Quit You Baby” and “You Shook Me” to your heart’s content. Also, “Dazed And Confused” is a part that you cannot miss from the reel tape change that the sound board missed. It is very unusual that Bonzo used cowbells in various parts of the drumming on this day, but the part where the cowbell was used in the same song was exactly the scene that was missed by the sound board. Even if the sound quality is excellent, it is essential to compensate with audience recording. Fortunately, the audience recording on the same day was also very good, and combined with the correction of the stereo image, we have revamped the definitive version of Texas pop that can be enjoyed with less discomfort! (Remastering memo) ★ The balance of the whole is adjusted to be as centered as possible from the right. * It is assumed that the vocals in the original sound source are leaning to the left, so the balance was adjusted to be right-leaning as a whole to reduce that.
