Description

This old cassette item had been sold at a certain shop for a long time, but I think it was at its peak in the 1980s. It was advertised in music magazines as “Super Collector’s Cassettes,” and the price was not much different from LPs, and in fact, it was priced higher than today’s CD items, as you would expect during the bubble era. In advertisements, long artist names were abbreviated, but even for group names like ZEP, the strange abbreviation “L Zeppelin” is very nostalgic, and the use of English was very typical of Showa Japan. The sound quality rating was written in ABC, and I remember that the Budokan 923 was written as “B grade.” However, since sales were popular in the 1980s, there were few items that were written as “C grade” because the main artists were popular at the time. If there was anything that was written as “C grade,” it was for live recordings from the late 1960s to early 1970s. Thus, the 923 Alternate Master, which had quietly inhabited a large number of cassette items released at a certain shop. It is a sound source that is maniac in a good sense and full of the charm of the vintage audience, so it is wonderful to have it made into a complete version as “STAGE IN TOKYO 1971”, but I would like to listen to it in the original sound source alone… It is natural that a maniac would think so. So, you can enjoy the prototype of this vintage audience on a CD that contains only the original cassette part. Since only the cassette part is recorded, the recording of “Since I’ve Been Loving You” was once finished, and the fast-forward sound that seems to have been made by accidentally pressing the record button and the play button at the same time in the dark during the live performance, as well as some of the MC that was entered in fragments before recording resumed, are recorded without omission. Despite this, it is commendable that the long performance of “Dazed And Confused” was recorded in its entirety. Furthermore, the recording ended just before “Hello Mary Lou” began during the “Whole Lotta Love” medley, which is a valuable document that tells us the difficulty of recording a long-running ZEP live performance that everyone at the Budokan must have had a hard time with that day. Of course, the pitch deviation peculiar to cassettes is also well adjusted. This is a valuable item that allows you to listen to the sound source itself without stress until the end. In this way, you will feel that the sound quality is surprisingly easy to listen to even just the cassette part. And above all, it is an item that contains a cassette full of nostalgia for the Showa era on a CD. Disc 1 (48:01) 1. Introduction 2. Immigrant Song 3. Heartbreaker 4. Since I’ve Been Loving You★7:49-8:13 Noise, fast-forwarded audio, and cheering snippets are included as is 5. Dazed And Confused Disc 2 (52:35) 1. MC 2. Celebration Day 3. Bron-Y-Aur Stomp 4. That’s The Way 5. Going To California 6. What Is And What Should Never Be 7. Moby Dick 8. Whole Lotta Love(cut)
