Description

This is a 38-minute recording of a 1971 BBC live broadcast in Japan in the mid-1980s. This is a direct recording of a tape that was recorded by a enthusiast who had recorded the radio broadcast take of the 1980s with amazing high quality and saved it. This time, for comparison, “POP SPECTACULAR IN CONCERT Restored Edition” recorded directly from the original BBC broadcast in the UK is also included, but the sound character is completely different from this one. If you examine it closely, you can hear some fine scratch noises, so this is also a radio broadcast using a broadcast record, but Communication Breakdown is clearly separated with drums on the left and guitar on the right, just like the BBC original, while the other tracks are mixed more toward the center. The recorder disliked the Japanese DJ’s talking and intentionally cut it out, but the composition seems to be four songs from Immigrant Song to Communication Breakdown played in succession, followed by uncollected DJ talk, and then Stairway To Heaven and Whole Lotta Love in the second half. Due to the broadcast time slot, all the songs start from the very beginning of the performance, but Whole Lotta Love is an edited take of exactly 10 minutes, and when compared to the take on the included POP SPECTACULAR, it is clear that more than 4 minutes have been cut from Rock ‘n’ Roll Medley at 5:47 – 7:28, 9:11 – 10:25, and 10:36 – 11:57. (The song titles are the guitar solo in the latter half of Boogie Chillun’ – Boogie Mama, That’s Alright Mama, and For What It’s Worth. They have been cleverly cut so that it is not noticeable at first listen.) From 9 seconds to 20 seconds into Whole Lotta Love, Plant’s mic noise is on (only part of it can be heard on POP SPECTACULAR), and the cheers that were covered by editing on the BBC master recording during the intro riff are turned off. However, the sound quality is very good, and although it is not at all a modern equalization like the official version, the tone is bright and bright, and the sound has a completely different impression from the dusty classical sound of the BBC original. Since the past, as represented by Westwood One from the 1980s onwards, the composition and mix of BBC71 have been changed and broadcast, and this is the Japanese broadcast version from the mid-1980s (probably 1984). Since it is a release from a maniac who collected the broadcast take at a high level at that time, which is familiar from our gift campaigns, I think that fans will definitely enjoy it, although the content is familiar. Led Zeppelin – BBC 1971 : Japanese Broadcast Edition Paris Theatre, London, UK 1st April 1971 1. Intro 2. Immigrant Song 3. Heartbreaker 4. Black Dog 5. Communication Breakdown 6.
