Description
The 1973 American tour began in Tampa on May 5th, and ended in Los Angeles on June 3rd. After a break of about one month, the second leg was held, concluding with the legendary three consecutive MSG performances, which were also made into a movie. The first day of the second leg was the Chicago performance on July 6th. Many soundboard recordings have been leaked from the 1973 US tour. Partial soundboards have been left behind for many performances on the European tour prior to the US, but unfortunately there are very few performances that are complete recordings. Nevertheless, it is said that these large number of soundboard recordings were leaked from live recordings that were made at the beginning of the year for the movie and its soundtrack that would later become “Eternal Poem”. As mentioned above, although there are many performances, none of these 1973 soundboard recordings are complete recordings, only the first half of the concert, only the encore, or only partial recordings. Among them, the Chicago performance on July 6, 1973 is one of the few that has all the songs recorded on a soundboard. This day was released by the Wendy label under the title “Windy City Adventure”. And this work is a recording of the sound check in Chicago on July 6, also on a soundboard. If a complete concert recording is rare, it is very rare for a sound check recording to be leaked on a soundboard. Zeppelin’s live recordings have been released in such a large number of titles that they have become a genre in the world of collectors. However, behind-the-scenes recordings such as sound checks are very few in number compared to live performances, and have hardly been known. However, for some reason, the Chicago performance on July 6, 1973 was a rare day when not only the main concert but also the sound check could be heard on a soundboard. This work records the sound check in Chicago on July 6, 1973 as a soundboard recording. The most distinctive feature of this sound check recording is the set list. Unlike rehearsals, sound checks are conducted to check the sound output at the venue, and many rare songs that are not performed at concerts are performed. Please see the track list for details, but the main focus is on oldies numbers. This is a reflection of Robert Plant’s taste. There are also songs that Zeppelin fans cannot overlook. The first one is “The Rover”. The second track on “Physical Graffiti”, which is still unreleased at this point, has the Japanese title “Rurou no min”, and it turns out that this song was already almost complete at this point, two years before the release. That alone is surprising, but what makes this take so valuable is that this song has never been performed live (it has been performed live at PAGE & PLANT). In other words, even if it is a sound check, the fact that you can hear the live version of “The Rover” is worth it. And another valuable live version is “Night Flight”. This is also a song included in “Physical Graffiti”, but since it was originally an outtake from the 4th album, it is not surprising that it was completed at this point. This song is also a valuable one that Zeppelin never performed live. Some kind of effect is applied to the vocals, and it gives the illusion of listening to a studio outtake, but this is also a live performance at a sound check. The sound check of the Chicago performance on the first day of the second leg of the tour on July 6, 1973 was recorded on a high-quality sound board. There is no other day when such a large amount of precious Zeppelin sound check recordings have been leaked, and what’s noteworthy is that “The Rover” and “Night Flight”, which had never been performed live, were already being performed at this point, two years before the release. â– Sound check recording from Chicago on July 6, 1973 â– High-quality sound board recording â– Live performance of “The Rover” and “Night Flight”, which have never been performed on stage!
