Description
This is the Tampa performance on May 5, 1973, known as the largest concert in the history of Zeppelin. It was held in front of an audience of 56,800 people, the largest concert of the 30-city US tour that year, in terms of the number of people who attended a single concert in the United States. At the same time, it was the largest audience performance in the history of Zeppelin. Plant later said, “I knew it was the biggest concert ever. But I tried to sing normally so as not to get nervous.” The members were aware that it was a special concert. There are two types of audience sound sources of this Tampa performance on May 5, 1973. Both have similar sound quality and feel, and it is difficult to choose between them, and they are of such high quality that it is hard to believe they were recorded in a huge stadium. This work makes full use of these two sources to completely record this memorable concert. Of course, it is not just edited as it is, but detailed corrections have been made everywhere, making it a valuable work that surpasses the already released version. The original sound source may have had a limiter applied to it during recording, and there was a symptom of the recording level dropping at the louder parts, but this work has been adjusted to reproduce the sound that was produced on the day as it was throughout the whole album. For example, the part where the drums come in in “Over The Hills And Far Away” is the key to the concert, where the song sparks off at once from the beautiful guitar phrase in the intro, but in this work, the level is not lowered at all in the previously released version, but it is very attacking. For some reason, such level fluctuations can be seen in “Misty Mountain Hop” as well. In “Since I’ve Been Loving You”, there seems to have been some trouble near the recorder, and you can hear the voices of people arguing. Perhaps because of this, the condition of the original tape is already shaky. This work, which carefully corrects these things, can be listened to without stress compared to previous versions. The largest stadium in Zeppelin’s history, the Tampa performance on May 5, 1973, which attracted a record-breaking 56,800 people, is recorded in its entirety using two different audiences that are difficult to choose between.
