Sorry to keep you waiting, JRK REMIX fans! It’s been known for a long time, but it’s finally here. This is the JRK REMIX from the 1973 Southampton concert. The final installment of the JRK series! As one of the few multi-track recordings of Zeppelin, I wanted to remaster it right away. Even though it’s multi-track, it’s a pretty rough mixdown, and there are various problems with the recording, such as volume variations, clicking, and some songs having completely different tones. It needed a lot of work. Most of the collector’s and fan remasters of this show have been overused to the point of degrading the sound, and I found the best source among them. I started working on it. The biggest problem with this recording is the muddiness of the low frequencies. I fixed this with equalization and brightened the high frequencies in some places. In addition, I tried to make it a more cohesive recording by equalizing more extensively in the parts where the sound difference was noticeable. There was also a terrible clicking sound (most noticeable on Dancing Days) that seemed to be the influence of the original recording released by Royal Orleans in 2007, but I cleaned this up. There were also some parts where the volume was inconsistent, but we improved that as well. The result is a clearer and crisper recording. It’s a huge improvement from the rough mixdown, and it’s surprisingly easy to listen to. This will be the band’s last time performing at such a small, closed venue. Since it’s a performance in a small hall that can’t even accommodate 1,000 people, the atmosphere is much more casual than other performances from this period, and the band really enjoyed playing, so I think it’s noteworthy that they were able to capture it in a multi-track recording. Now, the sound is better than ever with the JRK remaster.
