Description

The “Dogs of Doom” team, who have been unearthing ZEP’s unreleased audience recordings and upper version recordings for the past year, have now unearthed an audience recording from the 1972 Denver performance! It’s still surprising that a recording from the 1972 US tour has appeared, but since no recordings have been unearthed on this day and the set list was unknown, this could be called the last historic excavation of the year. First of all, as you can see from the track list, the recording time is short, less than an hour, and the recording state is far from a complete recording of the actual live performance due to frequent cuts between songs. There are cuts from the opening “Immigrant Song”, but that’s just the beginning. When it comes to “Since I’ve Been Loving You”, the performance is cut abruptly in the middle of the performance…In fact, the recording interruption is so obvious that you can even hear the sound of the tape recorder being turned on and off. This is presumed to be a tape saving measure to record the desired “Stairway To Heaven”, and as expected, as soon as the song started, the recording started in a hurry from the middle of the intro. Except for that part, the performance was recorded properly. However, this time, there was a recorder problem, or a “click” that was presumed to be a running sound was periodically inserted. Thus, was it satisfied to record “Stairway To ~”, all the songs recorded after “Bron-Y-Aur Stomp” were not cut, but were recorded incompletely. In particular, “Whole Lotta Love” was recorded for only less than 40 seconds, far from the recording of the main song, and it was only possible to barely tell what was being played by the fragment of “Going Down Slow” in the medley. However, the Denver that was excavated this time was the next live performance after the second day of Seattle, the legendary marathon show on the 1972 US tour. As if to tell the story, the precious scene of the new song “The Ocean”, which had not yet been released, was captured on this day as well as in Seattle at the beginning of the live performance. On the second day of the Seattle live premiere, there were times when Robert’s voice was not coming out, but on this day he was in top form. What is most fortunate is that this precious scene was recorded completely without any damage. Also, before the finale “Thank You”, “Louie Louie” is included, and the development in which Robert sings is also in keeping with the Seattle flow, but since it is the end of the live performance, the recording is completely fragmented. And after “Bron-Y-Aur Stomp”, there is a rare scene where Robert hums a verse of “One” by Three Dog Night, which was at the height of its popularity at the time, in a high tone, but the sound is far away, so it is difficult to distinguish it unless you listen carefully. Yes, this sound source not only has a frighteningly frequent cut after the end of “Stairway To Heaven”, but the sound image is far away and the sound swells from the middle of the live performance, which is a factor that raised the hurdle. If you go back to the second day of Seattle after listening to this sound source, you can imagine how much quality it is if you compare it to how easy it is to listen to. 19Denver Coliseum, Denver, Colorado, USA 21st June 1972This is a must-listen and must-have for enthusiasts, recording the Denver performance on June 21, 1972 with the first appearance audience recording. It is a valuable sound source, although it is for enthusiasts. Denver Coliseum, Denver, Colorado, USA 21st June 1972(57:48) 01. Drone 02. Immigrant Song 03. Heartbreaker 04. Black Dog 05.
