The JEMS version of the Mirrored 1st Gen sound source uses three TDK SA90 cassette tapes as the master, while the Winston version of the Mirrored 1st Gen sound source uses the Maxell XL?90 cassette as the master. The difference in sound quality is obvious, and compared to the JEMS version, this Winston version has a more powerful (= noisy) sound with a flashy and louder high range. On the other hand, the JEMS version has a natural-oriented sound with a strong bottom centering around the mid-low range, and although it directly uses 1st Gen tapes that are branched from each other, it may be due to the characteristics of the tape or the difference in the playback environment. You will be surprised by the different sounds. (As is often said, there may be a difference between Dolby On/Off, but…) On the 1st Gen of Maxell XL?90, sound fluctuation due to aging of the tape was confirmed at the 5th second of Stairway To Heaven. Yes, but the TDKSA90 version 1st Gen does not have that problem. However, the freshness of the sound is on par with both, and fans of both are definitely must-listens and must-haves. Since this take is made into a sound disc of the 1st Gen tape, the 5 minute 18 second cut part of Ten Years Gone remains as it is.
