Description
ZEP’s 1971 BBC live performance was released as a new compilation album, “BBC SESSION 1971,” but rather than creating a new compilation, it seems that their 1969 appearances, which were another BBC period, were overlooked. Unlike 1971, it was broadcast in mono, but there is also a valuable repertoire of soundboard recordings that boast the highest sound quality. The BBC sound sources of that era were eagerly awaited to appear as a new compilation. At that time, the familiar “Krw_co” broadcast master, the high-quality sound source of the so-called “Pre-FM” stage, was released for each program. The new compilation that will be released this time is literally a new compilation that was re-washed by a ZEP specialist and put together for release. It was originally a mono soundboard with the best sound quality, so countless items have been released, but the items that have been popular with enthusiasts in recent years have been equalized to some extent, and more than ten years have passed since their release. Compared to those past items, this “Krw_co” version has no equalization, and the sound quality is natural and calm, which is obvious at first listen. This is most noticeable in “TASTY POP SUNDAE” recorded on June 19th, which featured rare numbers such as “The Girl I Love She Got Long Black Wavy Hair” and “Something Else”. It is obvious when comparing those two songs with the past compilation items, but this time the sound quality is suddenly more natural and calm, like the 1969 BBC broadcast. Of course, the sound quality of various official releases that have been remastered with the general release in mind is out of the question. Listening to the natural and honest sound quality of this release, such as “TOP GEAR” recorded in June, which was a particularly major presence among the BBC appearances in 1969 because it was a live performance in front of an audience, you can see that the bass was processed to sound loud in the complete BBC session titles released in the past. And since there is no “Pre-FM” sound source for “ALEXIS KORNER’S “RHYTHM & BLUES”, which is famous for playing unreleased songs, this time it is recorded from the air check sound source of that time. However, it is noteworthy that the sound quality of the highlight “Sunshine Woman” is rough but improved compared to the past items, which were a bit muffled. Compared to this version, the sound quality of the past items seems to be quite muffled. In addition, the second disc contains the acoustic “White Summer” that Jimmy performed on BBC TV in 1970, also with the best sound quality ever. It is because ZEP specialists have handled it that it is a perfect compilation of the performances that ZEP left behind at BBC from 1969 to 1970. ZEP’s appearances on BBC radio in 1969 were concentrated in the first half of the year when the group was creative, and as a result, it was a very valuable record that allowed us to hear the footsteps of new songs such as “The Girl I Love She Got Long Black Wavy Hair”, “Something Else” and “Sunshine Woman” on the airwaves, but they also performed “Whole Lotta Love” before it was released. This is a valuable record that captured ZEP in their aggressive mode at the time on the best mono soundboard. Compiled from a sound source that is said to be Krw_co’s Pre-FM Reel! Phase, band, noise removal, etc. No compression is applied to the whole, and the range is wide. Especially on March 19th (only this is AM radio), high-frequency noise such as hum noise and keen is removed as much as possible.
