In 1976, this phantom sound source was recorded for broadcast in a studio in Tokyo between performances in Japan, and has been recorded with excellent sound quality that has not faded even after 42 years. This is a piece that will attract the attention of jazz fans. Bassist Niels Pedersen, known for releasing masterpieces as a duo with Kenny Drew in the 1970s, and drums include recordings with Lee Morgan, Dexter Gordon, and others, representing hard bop from the late 1950s. But the most famous one is the one recorded in Tokyo with a trio made up of Billy Higgins. What’s more, the latter three songs feature alto master Jackie McLean, who fully demonstrates her passionate alto with the trio as the backing. Moreover, it is recorded with excellent sound quality that is hard to believe that it was recorded at the time, so it is no wonder that it is released as an official record. Please note that only the intro part of the first song will be in monaural.
