The European Quartet masterpiece “Hanover 1974” has been released as a 2-disc complete version with more tracks and longer recording time than the three rebroadcast sound sources! After leaving Miles Davis’ band, Keith Jarrett worked with excellent Norwegian jazz musicians, commonly known as the “European Quartet”. This unit, which teamed up with three musicians representing the European jazz scene, Jan Garbarek (sax), Palle Danielsson (b), and Jon Christensen (ds), has produced four excellent works so far. This release uses the original sound source of the live recording for a TV program of the unit’s debut album “Belonging” released in 1974. The sound space created by the four is intelligent and elegant. This is exactly the kind of expression that Keith Jarrett envisions as unique to a quartet!
