Description

The band’s first visit to Japan in 1978 with “STAINED CLASS” has been familiar to fans through various items and videos. In particular, the performance at Shinjuku Tokyo Welfare Pension Hall on July 31, which was the third performance in Japan, has long been a staple as a radio broadcast sound source. In recent years, as a standard material, the definitive version boasting the highest sound quality ever was released under the press CD title “CLASS OF ’78” (Shades 378), which surprised fans. However, this live source from July 31, 1978, has another broadcast sound source that was aired again on the radio on January 14, 1979, just before the second visit to Japan. In this work, the music program “Golden Live Stage” version from that time is recorded in ultra-high sound quality for 51 minutes and 39 seconds, with not only the Japanese DJ and commentary at the time, but also the commercials before, during and after the song all uncut! PRIEST’s first visit to Japan soundboard is a very famous sound source, but it has never been released in this form before (all previous broadcast titles were 40 minutes long). This is a sound source that fans must listen to! The DJ and commercials that give a full feel of the mood of the time are also interesting points, but what is most surprising about this work is the best sound quality. There is no doubt that anyone will be shocked at first listen and ask, “Is this really an air check?” or “Is this not a radio station’s master copy?” Rob’s vocals, as well as the direct feeling of the guitar sound, are truly amazing! Everyone will be overwhelmed from start to finish by the majesty of “The Great Gate Of Kiev” reproduced by this sound, the exciting “White Heat, Red Hot”, the dramatic “Victim Of Changes”, etc. “Exciter”, which was not recorded on the same day, can also be heard with the DJ’s light-hearted narration in the background (recorded for 2 minutes 21 seconds). Track 10 also includes an explanation of the stage equipment, including the speakers and drum kit. The gentle narration and unexpectedly detailed explanations that can be heard here are just as irresistible for fans as the main story. And track 13, “Genocide,” is a spectacular 13-minute epic! PRIEST at the time still had a strong ’70s hard rock color, and even playing this kind of song is great! The outstanding master freshness, including the occasional inserted commercials, is as if it was recorded yesterday or today, and at the same time, it is deeply impressive. Listening to this, you will feel like you have traveled back in time to January 1979! After listening to this work, if you move on to “PRIEST IN THE EAST: FIRST NIGHT COMPLETE,” the first performance in Japan in 1979, you will be able to understand the feelings of rock fans at that time.
