Description
JUDAS PRIEST in 1979 was evolving from a hard rock band to a metal band with the arrival of the full-fledged heavy metal era. Their second visit to Japan was also released as the official work “UNLEASHED IN THE EAST”. However, for fans who want the persuasive power of a true live performance without replacement and Rob’s live performance in good form, collector’s items will still function as a powerful tool. Before “UNLEASHED IN NEW YORK” appeared, “HELL BENT FOR PALLADIUM” was a popular standard item for fans in 1979. This sound source was recorded on the stage at “The Palladium” in New York on November 4th, the second leg of the North American tour in the second half of the 1979 tour, from the FM broadcast sound source of a local radio station. This time, in order to allow you to enjoy “UNLEASHED IN NEW YORK” more deeply, this other standard sound source has been newly remastered and released! This work does not reach the impeccable clarity and official sound that could be heard in “UNLEASHED IN NEW YORK”. However, the mix and sound making, which are intended to be heard by the listener, allow you to enjoy the wild performance that PRIEST released at that time with great force. In addition, the careful remastering applied to the sound record is effective, and the ease of listening to the sound, including the improvement of sound pressure, is guaranteed. Among the various same-day sound sources that exist, this work has achieved sound quality that can be said to be number one. Another major feature of this work is that it is a live performance in the latter half of 1979, when live performances began to be held as full sets. The total of 14 songs, about 82 minutes, from the opening with “Hell Bent For Leather” to the end with “Tyrant”, is a decisive factor that surpasses not only “UNLEASHED IN NEW YORK” but also the official one. In terms of the selection of songs, it is almost the same as the Japan tour that took place in February of the same year. However, since “KILLING MACHINE” was released as “HELL BENT FOR LEATHER” with some changes to the content, the order of the songs was changed significantly and the set list gave a different impression. The live performance opened with the title song “Hell Bent For Leather” in the US. This is the same as “UNLEASHED IN NEW YORK”, which contains the first leg of the North American tour in the spring of the same year, but there are differences in the arrangement, such as starting with a sound effect of a motorcycle revving the accelerator and creating a larger sense of scale. The sound, which is centered on Rob’s strong vocals and features a well-balanced guitar sound with K.K. Downing and Glenn Tipton separated into the left and right channels, is also a great listen in the following “Delivering The Goods” and “Running Wild”. The rhythms of Ian Hill and Les Binks are also clearly mixed, which is useful for checking the band ensemble at that time. The advantage of this sound source is that you can enjoy “The Ripper”, “Diamond And Rust”, “White Heat, Red Hot” and “Sinner” that you couldn’t hear in “UNLEASHED IN NEW YORK”. All of them are masterpieces full of spirit. The sharp, sharp, and melodic song development fully demonstrates the charm of ’70s JUDAS PRIEST. “The Green Manalishi” that gets American fans excited, the epic “Victim Of Changes” and “Genocide” that last about 10 minutes, there is a unique fun that can only be experienced with radio show sound sources that can’t be experienced with line-connected sound sources! “Starbreaker” that starts with Rob’s MC “Today is the last day of the US tour. Let’s meet again in 1980” is the climax of the live. The outstanding groove and groovy performance are irresistible! The last is “Take On The World” that unites the whole venue, and the dramatic ending with the dramatic “Tyrant”! In the MC before the performance of “Take On The World”, Rob repeatedly used the word “heavy metal”, and in 1980, they produced “BRITISH STEEL” and appeared at “Monsters of Rock” in August. They finally declared the arrival of the heavy metal era. This work, which contains the final appearance of “Hard Rock PRIEST” just before that, in a full set and with a high-quality broadcast sound source, is a must-listen for fans.
