Description

Steve Perry, Steve Augeri, Arnel Pineda… Jeff Scott Soto is the only singer with a unique voice among the singers after the revival who did not leave a single work. This is a definitive edition that couples two superb live videos that convey his heroic figure. Jeff was enrolled in JOURNEY from 2006 to the following year 2007. Among them, this work contains “Omaha performance on October 22, 2006” and “Baltimore performance on November 10, 2006”. It is a two-disc set recorded on one disc each. Both are superb audience shots full of irresistible charm and individuality. Let’s introduce each one. [Disc 1: Omaha performance on October 22] This work is recorded in chronological order. The first to appear is the Omaha performance that took place earlier. The point here is the superb quality and the volume of the full show recording. It’s a shot looking down from the left side of the second floor (Neal Schon side), but the image quality is amazing. It’s footage from 10 years ago, but even by modern standards, it’s still a beautiful image. Judging from the scene that was pulled back, there seems to be a certain distance, but the image quality does not collapse even when drunk with bold zoom, so there is no sense of distance at all. If you get as close as you can, you can see Ross Valory’s swaying blonde hair and even the fibers of Jeff’s ripped jeans. The sound is also suitable for the scene, with clear sound that jumps into your ears beautifully with zero obstructions. Two types are included, “original” and “remastered”, and the dynamism of the latter is wonderful, but the natural sound of the former is also hard to throw away. The sound conveys the desire of the producers to keep both. Moreover, the camerawork is also wonderful. It keeps Jeff and Neil in the center, and if the sense of stability is outstanding, the viewpoint moving without blurring is very smooth. You can enjoy the performance of the precious era in a full show without leaving anything behind. Jeff’s zoom in particular is really amazing. The photographer, who is probably a JOURNEY fan, was probably paying attention to the new singer, but it was as if he knew that this work was destined to become “Jeff’s precious record”. His every move is recorded in detail. [Disc 2: Performance in Baltimore on November 10, 2006] Disc 2 is from Baltimore about three weeks later. The first two songs, “Stone In Love” and “Ask The Lonely”, were missed here, but the angle is even more realistic. The best part is the “straight ahead”. It was shot from the back seat in front of the stage, looking directly at the stage from far above the heads of the first floor audience. The height of the eyes is the same as the members on stage, so you can look at it as if you were “face to face”. And the image quality, sound quality, and stability are completely equal to Disc 1. If you were to make an official JOURNEY history video, the quality would be enough to insert it as it is. Looking at it face to face, Jeff shines even more. The hot performance familiar from Yngwie Malmsteen and TALISMAN is still alive and well. Jeff, who was originally a big fan of JOURNEY, sang with a passionate voice that was frankly expressing his feelings, and his expression when he was looking straight at the band was truly “serious”. Augeri and Arnel were interested in how much they resembled Perry, but Jeff is a singer who has been liberated from “recreating the memories of the golden age”. The beauty and dramaticism of the melodies of the super-famous songs are directly conveyed. It is a pity that the recording is incomplete, but on the other hand, the masterpiece “Message Of Love”, which is not on Disc 1, is also very delicious. The Jeff Scott Soto era was short and disappeared like a fleeting dream. The record of that time has to rely on the underground. And this work is an excellent work that meets those expectations. The revival of JOURNEY has always been a repeat of “similar to Perry/not like Perry after all”. However, the Jeff era was different, and he excited the audience with his “new voice”. A storyteller who conveys these facts beautifully and vividly to the present day. Qwest Center, Omaha, NE. USA 22nd October 2006 AMAZING SHOT 1st Mariner Srena, Baltimore, MD.
