Description

The ultimate live in Japan performance of the popular “FRONTIERS TOUR” is reprinted. This work contains “February 24th and 25th, 1983: Osaka Prefectural Gymnasium”. This is an audience set that spells out the two-day Osaka performance with the original master given to it by the recorder himself. JOURNEY, who has been visiting Japan almost every year since their first visit in 1979, is on their fifth Japan tour at this time. They are carrying the smash hit “FRONTIERS”… or rather, this Japan performance is actually the kickoff of the world tour. The first day was the release date of the album. First, let’s imagine it from the schedule.・February 22, 1983: Aichi Prefectural Gymnasium {“FRONTIERS” released on February 22} ・February 24 + 25, 1983: Osaka Prefectural Gymnasium [This work] ・February 26, 1983: Fukuoka Kyuden Memorial Gymnasium ・February 28, 1983: Kyoto Prefectural Gymnasium ・March 1 + 2, 1983: Nippon Budokan ・March 4, 1983: Yokohama Cultural Gymnasium This is the full story of their fifth performance in Japan. They will soon be coming to Japan for the 11th time, but this was the peak of their popularity, and it was a big tour with 8 performances, the most in their history of visiting Japan. This work is a 4-disc set with the second day on discs 1 and 2 and the third day on discs 3 and 4. Each of these recordings has been released before. “February 24th” on discs 1 and 2 was very popular as “FAITHFULLY TONIGHT”, and “February 25th” on discs 3 and 4 was very popular as “LEGEND”. In particular, “LEGEND” was released more than 10 years ago. It is a very popular recording that was highly praised for its superb sound and sold out in an instant. In this work, each master was re-digitized from the original cassette. It was carefully and meticulously re-recorded after the latest mastering. The sound of this work is truly exquisite. In particular, discs 3 and 4 (February 25th) were released as “LEGEND” and were highly praised as “the masterpiece of the Japanese performance” at the time of its release. It is not “the masterpiece of this day” or “the masterpiece of this tour”. It was called the masterpiece of all the Japanese performances by the countless JOURNEYs. In fact, the clarity is extraordinary. The musical tones and singing voices that flow out are extremely thick and neat, like a sound board, and it is like a radio broadcast. Although it also absorbs the enthusiasm of the peak of popularity, the heat does not get between the musical tones, but is balanced so that it covers the back. There are also microphone howling problems in “Open Arms”, but that can only be helped by the on-site PA… or rather, that is the true record. Even such troubles are recorded to the highest quality. There is a reason for that quality. In fact, these discs 3 and 4 were recorded by the people involved at the time with a microphone stand set up in the front row. In other words, it is a “professional audience recording”. Because they were involved, they were able to freely choose the best acoustic position, and they recorded it boldly on the stand without hiding the microphone. It is an unprecedented super audience that was destined to be the best. Although the order is reversed, discs 1 and 2 (February 24) did not have such secrets, and were recorded by ordinary recorders in ordinary seats. That’s why the sound is not as surprising as discs 3 and 4, but it’s still wonderful. This is what you might call a “normal advanced audience recording”. You can think of it as a huge bonus disc attached to the abnormal sound discs 3 and 4. Here, there is no howling trouble with “Open Arms”, and you can enjoy a smooth and realistic audience experience throughout the whole album. JOURNEY, which was drawn with such quality at the height of its popularity, is wonderful. This year’s performance in Japan has also been a hot topic of discussion, as the complete reproduction of the masterpieces “ESCAPE” and “FRONTIERS”, but these two are also the main characters in this work. From the just-released “FRONTIERS”, 9 out of 10 songs (all songs except “Troubled Child”) are played on a large scale. In addition, 7 out of 10 songs from “ESCAPE” are also played generously. Of course, the song order is an original flow that is completely different from the studio album, but the band potential that the performers themselves created the masterpiece is intact. As a live version of both works, you can enjoy the best performance ever. If the set list is also superb, the tension of the band is also as historic as the masterpiece. This is a masterpiece that captures the live performance in Japan during their heyday with an extraordinary high quality sound. If you already own both “FAITHFULLY TONIGHT” and “LEGEND”, this is not necessary, but if you missed either of them or came back to JOURNEY when they came to Japan, this is a treasured 4-disc set. This is the best and happiest record of their performance in Japan. Please take this opportunity to enjoy it to your heart’s content.
