Description
Redman, Mehldau, McBride, Blade… Birds of a feather flock together, but the miraculous meeting of these four talents, who would go on to play a major role in the music scene, and the encounter of their souls to create new music is not something ordinary, but it is truly thrilling… a rare live performance is now available for the first time! These four are said to be new talents, and not only do they have excellent techniques, but they are also from a generation that grew up listening to other genres such as rock and hip-hop without distinction, and they greedily took in the best parts of all genres and fused them together to create a completely new jazz! It is a miracle that these four people were active together today, but we have a historic recording of the rare live performance of The Quartet at the Vienne Festival in France on July 9, 1994, recorded in full over 80 minutes on a high-quality stereo soundboard that has been carefully mastered by the label’s own label! The program was composed mainly of songs by Joshua, who was a leader among young musicians at the time, and Joshua demonstrated his leadership throughout the entire performance, including his characteristic full-body twisting and blowing, and the opening solo with a multiphonic technique. Also, if you close your eyes and listen, you can hear Mehldau’s unique and outstanding technique, as if two pianists were playing, perfectly controlling not only the phrases but also the tone, volume, length and depth of the reverberation, and the rhythm section of McBride and Blade, who took different approaches to each song (how wide is their capacity!), inspiring Redman and Mehldau and bringing out the best in their abilities, and don’t miss this historic moment when a new jazz was born!
