Description

In 1983, Joni Mitchell held her only Japan tour with “WILD THINGS RUN FAST,” which introduced a rock taste. The best video representing such an era has been decided to be released. This work was filmed at “Wembley Arena performance on April 24, 1983.” This is a multi-camera professional shot where you can witness rocky Johnny. Although Joni has little connection to tour life, “WILD THINGS TOUR” is her first full-fledged world tour in a while. First, let’s check the show’s position from the panoramic view. ・February 28th – March 7th: Japan (7 performances) ・March 11th – 30th: Oceania (12 performances) ・April 14th – 24th: UK (7 performances) ←★Here★・4 June 26th – May 14th: Europe (14 performances) June 9th – July 30th: North America (30 performances) This is an overview of the tour, which was held only once in the 1980s. This week, new excavation live albums “TOKYO 1983 1ST NIGHT (Zion-154)” and “BUDOKAN 1983 (Zion-155)” will be released, and Japan was also the starting place. After that, Joni spent about half a year touring Oceania, Europe, and North America. Under such circumstances, the Wembley performance of this work was a concert on the final day of the “UK” tour, which was about two months after the Japan performance. Since it was a time when we were trying out new sounds, there are various broadcast soundboards left from this tour, but on this day, the BBC cameras were also included and it was broadcast on TV. It has long been popular as a representative image of Johnny in the 1980s. This work is the pinnacle of such a classic professional shot. It’s a period-style analog air check recording, but I can’t believe it. There are no dubbing marks or even the slightest aging deterioration on the master, and there is no wrinkling, smearing, or white line noise. It is a glossy screen with no distortion at the edges of the screen, which is the fate of video masters. Of course, the audio is also the best sound board, and there is no noise here either. The quality is definitely official grade…It’s also a visual beauty that makes you wonder, “Was it released on laser disc?” What is depicted with such quality is the appearance of Joni stepping into a new sound. Although it is far from a full show as it follows the broadcast time frame of less than one hour, it contains a collection of famous songs from the 70’s. A wide range of selections are available, from “LADIES OF THE CANYON” to “MINGUS.” The main structure is a repeat of band → playing and singing → band → playing and singing. First of all, it starts with the light “Free Man In Paris” like the Japanese performance, and progresses to “Song For Sharon” and “God Must be A Boogie Man” in band style. The increasingly bitter ensemble is really delicious, and especially in “God Must be A Boogie Man”, Larry Klein’s bass is exquisite. The mood changes from the fourth song “Big Yellow Taxi”, and Joni’s singing becomes the main focus for about 4 songs. The highlight here is the two consecutive “BLUE” songs of “A Case Of You” and “Carey”. In these two songs, she uses a dulcimer instead of a guitar, allowing us to hear her soft, refreshing and beautiful singing voice. This part was also a highlight of “TOKYO 1983 1ST NIGHT” and “BUDOKAN 1983”, but the video is still different in persuasiveness. The sight of Joni with a dulcimer on her lap makes her singing voice even more beautiful. Then, she picks up the guitar again and starts playing and singing “Amelia.” Michael Landau also joined us here. You can enjoy a wonderful performance in which the subtle melodies of two guitars are beautifully intertwined. After listening to plenty of classical music as it should be, the full band returned to the stage. The world of the latest work “WILD THINGS RUN FAST” at the time explodes! Three songs “(You’re So Square) Baby I Don’t Care”, “Solid Love” and “Chinese Cafe” will be performed, but the dynamism is really wonderful and the dynamism is clear. This work quietly closes with the eternal masterpiece “Woodstock”. Although 1983 cannot be said to be Joni’s peak, the dynamic show is wonderful because of that era. “WILD THINGS TOUR” multi-camera pro shot reminiscent of the Japan tour that was only realized once.
