Description

This is a compilation of rare recordings from Joni’s early career, from 1965 to 1970, all in master quality and soundboard quality. First, in the mid-60s, after leaving Toronto with the aim of becoming a solo artist, she began her career mainly on the East Coast. Starting with acetate demos from 1965, the album includes live recordings from 1966-67 at the folk club Second Fret in Philadelphia, as well as radio show recordings, and many songs that have never been released officially. In addition, it includes TV shows and concerts from that time, as well as precious covers of songs by Neil Young and John Phillips, all of which are rare takes from before her record debut. Her unique writing and playing style soon attracted attention, and Oscar Brand even featured her on his TV show several times. This album is filled with precious performances from the young Joni, who was beginning to be recognized as having a “new sensibility.” After releasing masterpieces in the late ’60s such as “Song to a Seagull,” “Clouds,” and “Ladies of the Canyon,” she has performed many classic songs that are still relevant today. However, a rare cover of Dino Valenti’s “Get Together” from a 1969 live performance is also a must-see, making this a live and rare collection. DISC ONE : 01. Day After Day (Early 1965 Acetate)/02.
