Description
This is a rare recording of a high-quality monaural audience recording of a Texas performance from the US tour accompanied by the black rhythm section at the time of the recording of “QUE SERA SERA”! Although it is monaural, the sound quality is so clear that you will doubt your ears that it is a line recording, and you can enjoy Johnny’s thick guitar that reverberates on the floor with a well-balanced and powerful sound for each part! From the album Que Sera Sera released in August of the previous year, they played “Endless Party” and “Blame It On Mom”. In addition to Johnny’s favorite covers from this period, “I Ain’t Superstitious” and “In The Midnight Hour”, they also played Bo Diddley’s “I Can Tell”, which he has been playing since his Heartbreakers days, and an instrumental version of “Cosa Nostra” that incorporates lyrics from Chicago blues giant Howlin’ Wolf’s “Spoonfull”. They also performed some great acoustic corners, including covers of The Rolling Stones’ “Play With Fire”, Bob Dylan’s “Joey” and “Like a Rolling Stone”. It’s a shame that the ending of the last cover of Chuck Berry’s “Little Queenie” is missing, but this is a superb album that shows Johnny in top condition, including the blues number “Austin Blues” with improvised lyrics!
