From 1989 to the following year, the trio performed at jazz festivals all over Europe, and this album contains a nearly complete recording of their performance at the International Jazz Week Festival held in Burghausen, Germany on March 19, 1989, recorded on a stereo soundboard from the local radio on-air master. The tense three-piece ensemble, featuring Kai Eckhardt on electric bass and Trilok Gurtu on drums and percussion, was unique to this period, and although some festivals also included medleys of standards, the main focus here is on McLaughlin’s classic songs from the 1980s onwards.
