Joe Zawinul/Germany 2005

In 2005, a live performance with Joe and the WDR Big Band is recorded with professional shots. This is a performance at a jazz festival in Germany, one month after recording the co-starring live album “BROWN STREET”. The rhythm section is almost exactly like Uelipo, and the performance with the thick trumpet corps is like an adult Uelipo, combining the thrill of WR and the completeness of a big band. I was wondering how a big band would explore Wayne’s territory, but instead the performance seemed to be an extension of Joe’s keyboard work, and even though Wayne was Wayne and the song was WR, it was exactly Joe’s work.
