Description

The JEMS team, which has been releasing recordings of legendary taper Mike Millard, has had a new development. When they contacted Millard’s associates about recordings of concerts that were listed in the list of recordings he left behind but whose masters were thought to have been lost, they discovered 10 first-generation tapes copied from his masters. Since they thought they knew everything about Millard’s masters, the fact that 10 more new discoveries were added was a pleasant surprise for enthusiasts around the world. The first of the new recordings released in this way was Joe Walsh’s 1981 LA Forum. Millard recorded the LA Forum performance, which was held at the height of his popularity, when he had already established his status as an artist before joining the Eagles, and the album “Loveable Outlaws,” released after the group stopped performing, also made it into the top 20 of the charts. In fact, this tour was called the “NEIGHBORHOOD TOUR” after the original title of the album “THERE GOES THE NEIGHBORHOOD”. In keeping with their strong desire to entertain the audience, they limited the repertoire from the new album to two songs, and the entire set list was a stunning composition of Joe Walsh’s greatest hits. Thanks to that, the venue was very lively, and Millard picked up a fair amount of the audience’s chatter around him. This must have been frustrating for him, even though it was his home venue, the Forum. Unfortunately, the tape on this 1st gen. copy showed some deterioration, and there was some unevenness in the sound, especially in the right channel. Apart from this, this was another wonderful Millard quality recording, and a stable LA Forum recording. In addition to the easy-to-understand set list that looked back on his career, he was supported by an ironclad backing from musicians who have long known Walsh, such as Russ Kunkel and Joe Vitale, and he seemed to enjoy both his singing and his guitar. And yet, he has a firm grasp of the trends of the era of 1981, which is typical of him. He performs “The Bomber” from his James Gang days, and even “Rocky Mountain Way,” which is no exaggeration to say is a signature song of the 1970s American rock world, in a surprisingly compact format. In the midst of all this, “All Night Long,” his biggest hit released in 1980, is the most exciting, which shows how active he was at the time. In addition, since it is a mirrored recording, the call-and-response with the audience is perfectly balanced. Therefore, the deterioration of the tape mentioned earlier is no longer an issue when listening, and the classic audience album that captures Walsh’s typical happy rock and roll show with the best sound quality is born here. And finally, he finishes with the Beatles’ “Get Back”! The Forum, Inglewood, CA, USA 18th July 1981 PREFECT SOUND Disc 1 (48:10) 1. Intro 2. Meadows 3. Over And Over 4. In The City 5.
