Description

Glenn Hughes & Joe Lynn Turner updated the twin vocal style of the 3rd and 4th period DEEP PURPLE with the HUGHES TURNER PROJECT. The best stereo sound board album by these two people, which also includes songs such as “Burn” and “Highway Star,” will be released. This work includes the night before the formation of HUGHES TURNER PROJECT (hereinafter referred to as HTP). This is a soundboard recording of VOICES OF CLASSIC ROCK in which the two of them participated together. This project was a gorgeous stage performance by various singers, but this work is a compilation of 10 songs focused on Glenn & Joe from 4 stages from 2000 to 2001. The quality is completely official grade. It is roughly an FM recording of radio broadcasting, but the mix and master freshness are excellent. These are all the best takes that can be officially released as they are. And what’s more is what’s inside. Let’s introduce each stage individually. [Summer 2000: Rye (3 songs)] First appeared at the show in New York in the summer of 2000. Three DEEP PURPLE songs by Joe: “Woman From Tokyo,” “Hush,” and “Smoke On The Water.” The detailed participating members at that time are unknown, but in “Hush” you can also hear a high-pitched shout that seems to be Glenn. [March 14, 2001: Los Angeles (2 songs)] On the sound board in March 2001, about a year before the release of “HTP”, there was a live performance of “Stone Cold” and a radio session of “Smoke On The I’m playing two songs, “Water”. “Stone Cold”, the only RAINBOW number in this work, is sung by Joe alone, but the must-listen is “Smoke On The Water”. Not only is it a duet with Glenn, but the acoustic version is delicious. The two relaxed singing voices intertwine with a simple ensemble in the background, and Glenn in particular barks. Although it is very improvisational, it does not fall apart and is far more colorful than singing by one person alone. Not only are they just “former DPs,” their backgrounds are deeply steeped in soul/R&B, and Joe’s improvisational sense, which leans toward soul, is closer to Glenn than to Coverdale. This is an exquisite take that makes you realize how good the compatibility between these two people is. [April 17, 2001: Las Vegas (3 songs)] Next up is Las Vegas a month later. Up until this point, Joe has been the main character, but from here it’s Glenn. Joe appeared when he sang “Stormbringer” and “You Keep On Moving” by himself. We’ll do a duet on “Burn.” This “Burn” is amazing. Even at HTP, PURPLE numbers were often sung by Glenn alone, but here Joe plays the role of David Coverdale and reproduces that twin vocal. A special song that could not be heard even on the official version “LIVE IN TOKYO” or the professional shot “CHELYABINSK 2004”. Although the reproduction of the guitar and keyboard is not good enough, you can listen to the twins’ passionate singing on the best sound board. [August 2001: Ottawa (2 songs)] The last performance was in Ottawa, Canada, where you can listen to two songs: “Mistreated” by Glenn alone and “Highway Star” as a duet. “Mistreated” is still great, but the highlight here is “Highway Star.” This is also a special fast that could not be heard in “LIVE IN TOKYO” or “CHELYABINSK 2004”, but what is even better is that it has been rearranged in a twin vocal style. Even in the 3rd and 4th period DEEP PURPLE, although they were twins, Coverdale took most of the lead role, and Glenn took the chorus role. However, here it is a real battle where the two sing almost equally. Even Joe is far more free and aggressive than he was in the 1991 PURPLE era, and the backing performance is also fiery as if drawn by these two. It is an incandescent version because Glenn & Joe are available. Although the entire album is a valuable and exquisite soundboard album, it is the biggest highlight of this work. Glenn Hughes and Joe Lynn Turner were not only a great co-star, but also an outstanding combination of shared roots. I think there are many people who like the colorful world in which the two voices intertwine, even if their individual solos don’t really appeal to them. This work is a masterpiece live album in which these two people share the stage to check their compatibility with each other, and enjoy the steps leading up to the start of HTP on the finest soundboard. A delicious stereo soundboard with plenty of songs you can’t hear on “LIVE IN TOKYO” and “CHELYABINSK 2004.” Voices Of Classic Rock US Tour 2000/2001 STEREO SBD (61:02) Rye, NY, USA Summer 2000 1.
