Description
In March 1981, a highly coveted two-disc live album was released, featuring a rare, master-quality recording of a live performance at the prestigious club “The Lighthouse” with his legendary quartet, leaked by someone involved in the project. This album, the first time all tracks were recorded in stereo, was a treat for fans. In the 1960s, he participated in the Thad Jones & Mel Lewis Orchestra, the quartets of Charlie Mingus and Elvin Jones, and the legendary Return to Forever’s debut album, leaving a strong impression on jazz fans with his talent. From the mid-1970s, he moved to the CTI label, recording three albums, including “Penny Arcade,” which still sounds fresh today and had a significant influence on the jazz scene. After leaving CTI, he moved to the Contemporary label and released “Sonic Text,” an album featuring Freddie Hubbard, Peter Erskine, and others, a thrilling performance that is considered one of his masterpieces. This live recording was made during the tour following the release of that album, at the prestigious jazz club “The Lighthouse” in Los Angeles. It’s said that this live performance was officially recorded but for some reason remained unreleased, making it a legendary, almost mythical, recording. This CD uses a stereo source as close to the master recording as possible, maximizing the original sound’s charm. Enjoy this historically significant recording.
