Nippon Budokan was LED ZEPPELIN’s first stage in Japan and the venue that gave birth to many legends. This is the live set of PAGE & PLANT’s last night back at the venue. Discs 1-2 are the world’s first superb audience recordings, and Disc 3 is a luxurious 3-disc set with the definitive video + soundboard. The last Nippon Budokan for the two of them was “February 13, 1996”. During PAGE & PLANT’s Japan tour, Nippon Budokan was booked in large numbers, and this day was also an additional performance. This work spells out such a memorable night with two superb records. Now, let’s introduce each one. [Disc 1-2: The Best Audience Album] First up is the audience recording, which is being released for the first time in the world. The quality is an extremely clear and direct masterpiece. That’s because the person who made this work is a famous recording artist who was said to be “in Kanto”, and the same person who made the press CD “BUDOKAN 1996 5TH NIGHT (Wardour-225)” which will be released at the same time this week. This work was made into a CD directly from the original DAT provided directly by the master. In fact, the sound board was famous for a long time on this day, so the recording artist himself kept it secret, but it is a waste of the super high sound quality. While it is on as much as a line recording, the slight acoustics of the venue add a “beauty of sound” that can only be found in the audience. It is a “sample of spatial recording” in which all instruments, all ranges, and all notes are depicted in detail, and even each and every beat of the applause shines and pours down crystal clear. The “last Nippon Budokan” depicted with that quality is a wonderful thing that touches the heart. The two legends and the band are completely familiar with the six consecutive performances at the same venue, and even though they are playing as they want, they are sublimated into a magnificent ensemble. The unexpected set of six consecutive performances is also wonderful, opening with “Thank You”, which made its debut in Japan, and continuing with “Custard Pie” and “Black Dog”, which were encore members until then. On the other hand, in the encore, which is usually heavily attacked, “What Is And What Should Never Be” is placed at the top and approaches carefully. In the 3rd and 4th performances, a maniac set was also performed, but even beyond that, it still maintains its freshness and captivates with a show of illusion that you can’t see at all. [Disc 3: Big classic shot & superb sound board] Even such discs 1 and 2 are more than enough for press class, but as mentioned above, pressing was postponed due to the existence of the superb sound board recording on this day. This disc is a famous audience shot, taken from the stand in front of the stage. I don’t know if it’s the handrail in the front row or a tripod, but the shadow of the audience is not reflected at all, and it’s a superb angle that doesn’t shake even with a bold super zoom. In fact, the approach is extraordinary, Plant’s waist up occupies the screen, and even the expression of singing is clear.
