Description

The solo careers of each member after the breakup of ZEP tend to be overlooked, but when it comes to Page, there is no period that has been overlooked as much as his 1988 solo album “OUTRIDER”. Unlike the movie soundtracks he released after the breakup of ZEP, or The Firm, this is the only rock album that Page has created as a solo artist to date. Naturally, when it was first released, it attracted a lot of attention due to the participation of his ally Plant, but contrary to that buzz, the ZEP reunion at an Atlantic Records event was realized shortly after the album’s release, so the content of the album was not properly evaluated. In fact, it was a classic rock album that brought out Page’s talent as a songwriter and his sharpness as a guitar player, yet was compactly put together in the style of the 1980s. Page himself seems to have a special attachment to this album and the tour after its release, and when he visited our store, he was so captivated by the audience shots of the Nassau Coliseum and New Haven, rather than the standard Arizona. In fact, as a rock act in the 1980s, they gave a first-class performance, and it was clear that Page was proud of this tour and the band. After the release of “OUTRIDER,” vocalist John Miles was the key person in the tour that took place in the second half of 1988. He has been criticized by ZEP fans who compare him to Plant, but when I listened to him now, I was surprised. What a wonderful voice, isn’t he? His personality is not as strong as Paul Rodgers’s in The Farm, but his charm as a vocalist is completely different from Plant’s. It is now clear that he had a good combination of 80s-like pop and the qualities of a shouter. Page himself praised him for having a “great voice” when “OUTRIDER” was released. The radio recording “Westwood One Superstars Rock Concert Series” conveys the charm of his singing voice and the tour band, and above all, the appearance of Page playing a lot, in a digest but with great sound quality. Although the best stereo soundboard recordings have produced famous titles such as “EMERALD EYES” and “MIDNIGHT MOONLIGHT” in the past, the “OUTRIDER” tour has been overlooked for over ten years, and items that can be easily obtained have disappeared. So this time, the air check sound source owned by Joe Maloney, who is familiar on the Internet, has been carefully transferred by “KRW&CO”, who is also familiar on the Internet, and the CD has been made based on the version. The finish and clarity of the radio sound source captured the dynamic play below Page with the best sound quality. There is almost no equalization like the past items, or the scratch noise of the broadcast discs that are scattered, and it is a title worthy of being called the new definitive edition. The whole work is packed with truly wonderful performances, but this is probably due to the fact that it is an excerpt from two performances in Ohio that took place in the middle of the tour. In addition, John Miles is amazing at singing “Over The Hills And Far Away” with the melody of the album version. The fact that they ended their live shows with the instrumental “Stairway To Heaven” every night was a big topic at the time, but the fact that they played “In My Time Of Dying” in the same key as the album version of “PHYSICAL GRAFFITI” is also very rare and nice. The clever playing of Jason Bonham, who had been working with Page as a drummer since the Atlantic Records event, is also evident. Unlike now, when he has established a certain status as “Bonzo’s son,” his lively drumming stands out. And the charm of “Emerald Eyes” as a compact rock number included in “OUTRIDER,” and “Tear Down The Walls,” which is played with more dynamism than the original firm, are recorded with the best sound quality, showing the amazing chemistry between Page and Miles, who play amazingly. Please rediscover the charm of the forgotten “OUTRIDER” tour with this release. And for those who want to hear the whole show, we recommend “PRISON BLUES” which contains our London performance (superb audience recording).
