Description

About a week after the Stockholm performance in September 1967, Jimi Hendrix and his band held a show in Skåne, Sweden. Here is the audience album of the first of the two shows held there. What amazes you when you listen to it is the excellent sound quality. The freshness and clarity of the sound, and the degree of on-the-sound image, are so amazing that you would never think it was an audience recording from 1967. This sound source was released in 2007 only in the semi-official release box set “HENDRIX LIVE IN SCANDINAVIA VOL. 1”, which was widely available at the time, but this time it is based on the version recorded with the best sound quality from the master tape that was circulating in the famous “ATM” series on the Internet among Jimi Hendrix traders. Moreover, the slightly out-of-tune pitch was properly adjusted for this release. Overall, it was a short stage of less than 40 minutes, typical of Jimi at this time, and the length of the performance itself was still compact. It’s a real shame that the recording stopped just as the rare R&B cover “Mercy Mercy” began, but the audience was quieter than in Stockholm, so this recording is really easy to listen to. Perhaps due to the audience’s reaction that day, which could be seen as even indifferent, the performance was not very heated in the first half of the more intense songs, and it is true that “Catfish Blues” did not reach the performance in Stockholm, where it was so fiery. However, in “Fire”, you can hear a high-tension performance that does not care about the audience, which is unique to Jimi and the Experience in their prime. Furthermore, the performance of the masterpiece “The Wind Cries Mary”, which stands out even more because of the quiet venue, is captivating. Please enjoy the lively performance with a sense of realism different from that of America, where it is easy to get noisy. In addition, “Manic Depression” was performed, which was not featured in the Stockholm concert a week earlier. The show was completely different from the Stockholm concert in terms of both content and performance, and even had a certain calm atmosphere. This high-quality show was captured with an amazing vintage audience and amazing sound quality.
