Description
Following “STOCKHOLM 4TH SEPTEMBER 1967”, whose quality is hard to believe when it comes to audience recordings from 1967, surprising enthusiasts all over the world, this is the appearance of an audience album that once again records the 1967 Stockholm performance. To be honest, Jimi in Stockholm in 1967 is a treasure trove of excellent audience recordings, and the sound source introduced this time is also of tremendous sound quality. However, this is a live performance with Experience from an era when stage time was still short, so we combined the two shows this time as well. This time too, the familiar Krw_co released it on the internet. Its high quality has been proven in the previous release, but this time too we used the sound source from the master cassette via reel tape (the reel is second generation). First of all, the stage in Stockholm on May 24th is recorded. It was a busy day for Jimi and his group as they were about to make their big break. First, they performed two songs live on the recording of the music program “POPSIDE” (which can be seen on YouTube with excellent image quality and performance), and then performed two short stages on “Dans In”. This sound source captured the show “Stora Scenen” performed above, and the venue was the same as “4TH SEPTEMBER 1967”. As you can see from that, this sound source is also an audience recording recorded by the same taper. Its quality has been proven in previous releases, but the sound quality of this May stage is also excellent. Even more so, I am impressed that the stage just before the break was captured with such quality. Because of its high level, it has been released not only as a boot but also as a box set called “HENDRIX LIVE IN SCANDINAVIA VOL. 1” by Gray Zone Official, just like the sound source of September 4th. However, this sound source is the oldest sound source for Jimi’s Stockholm performance, and it has problems typical of a vintage audience. This meant that the pitch was out of whack; it wasn’t just low, it was fluctuating erratically. Until now, there have been no titles that have solved this problem among the items that include the original sound source. Frankly speaking, this issue was neglected. Therefore, this time we thoroughly adjusted the instability. It became easier to hear, as if there were no problems and accurate pitch was a given. Although it is a minor adjustment, it also eliminates the slightly clogged texture that is unique to vintage audiences. Even so, I can’t help but be surprised that the stage of the May experience instead of September was captured with such realistic and clear sound quality. Moreover, the tight (in a good sense) and compact performance with no play is truly refreshing. The opening song “Foxy Lady” suffers from a problem common to 60’s rock live shows, such as malfunction of the vocal microphone, but after that, the live performance was well-balanced, allowing Jimi’s lead vocals and Noel’s backing chorus to be heard perfectly. It has not yet exploded in popularity in Monterey, so the compact and energetic performance is truly wonderful. In addition to these, what is moving is the scene where the audience gets excited when Jimi announces the song name of “Purple Haze”. This scene also captures the atmosphere of the best time for the group, when the song became a hot topic and its popularity skyrocketed. The one on September 11th was a live performance exactly one week after “4TH SEPTEMBER 1967”, so the audience recording had similar sound trends. After achieving success, the overall balance of the performance is very good (probably due to being able to use good equipment), but Jimi’s vocals are a bit pushed. Fortunately, this is not at a level that would drown it out, so just like “4TH SEPTEMBER 1967”, you can enjoy it this time as well with a sound quality that is so clear that you can’t believe it was recorded in 1967. Of course, this sound source is also a sound source released in the past with “HENDRIX LIVE IN SCANDINAVIA VOL. 1”, but it has a sense of stability that is incomparable to that and is overwhelmingly easy to hear. As expected, this one also had both the basic pitch deviation and instability peculiar to vintage audiences, so we thoroughly adjusted this as well. This is also a great sound quality, so the performance with high tension continues to be clear from a week ago. After all, the point here is that the latest single at the time, “Burning of the Midnight Lamp”, which was not featured on the 4th stage, can be heard. Generally, the radio broadcast (live premiere) on the 5th is famous for the live performance of this song at the same time, but this audience recording also has good sound quality, so you can fully feel the charm of the song. It was a song with a short lifespan in the repertoire, so it captures a valuable scene. And while the previous “STOCKHOLM 4TH SEPTEMBER 1967” recorded two stages that took place on the same day, this time you can enjoy the before and after stages of the stage before and after the break, even though it is in Stockholm, on one disc. is also a big attraction. Anyway, the sound is good, so it’s really easy to understand and enjoy the difference between May, when the compact performance stands out, and September, when the popularity explodes and the confidence in the performance is clear. “Hey Joe” is still an honest and compact performance not only in May but also in September, so it is like a “singing thing with an unusually good guitar” release of a valuable sound source that can be enjoyed as a 60’s rock live. Once again, please enjoy Jimi’s lively performance with surprisingly high sound quality! (Remastered memo) ★The treble texture of both sound sources has been changed to eliminate the clogged texture and make it easier to listen to. ★The pitch of both sound sources fluctuates by about +-20% starting from a half-semitone low, so I adjusted it as much as possible.
