Description

“THE BEST OF WOODSTOCK REHEARSALS 1969” was a literal best-of that was edited to eliminate the redundancy that is common in rehearsal sound sources and still enjoy the difference from the actual performance, but if you are a fan, you might not have recorded it. It is only natural that you would want to listen to a rehearsal performance, or even want to own one. I have compiled the parts that were not recorded. I’m saying this, but even though it’s Jimi’s work, the endless instrumental jams are tiring. Jams such as “The Dance” and “Sundance” that were included in past Woodstock rehearsal CDs evolved from riffs played by Jimi or Billy Cox, but jams are still jams. However, both performances last for 10 minutes. It’s certainly valuable as a resource, but I’m sure there are quite a few people who have skipped over past items and listened to them. Lol. Those alone would be great, but ATM’s “SHOKAN”, which is the basis for this release, also includes an instrumental jam that is nearly 30 minutes long. This is also valuable, but do you want to listen to it over and over again? Speaking of which, most enthusiasts would say no. If you listen to these, I hope you will understand why they were omitted when releasing “THE BEST OF WOODSTOCK REHEARSALS 1969”. There is also a scene in which Jimi sings Muddy Waters’ “Mannish Boy,” but in this scene, Mitch Mitchell’s absence results in a lackluster performance, with only the black members playing freely on the terrace of the Shokan House. The situation that would have been there emerges. This is also an interesting performance, but the musical perfection is still not high. Even if I list it so far, if you are an enthusiast, it is natural that you will be curious about the parts that were not included in “THE BEST OF ~”. This CD-R was put together there. Again, mostly redundant jams. In such a situation, the jams in which Djuma Sultan played the flute could be said to be a bit of a weak instrumental, and the performances were surprisingly interesting. In addition, songs such as “Izabella” that were recorded in “THE BEST OF ~” clearly lack cohesion and momentum, and this is also typical of rehearsals. Although the content is a compilation of such loose performances, the sound quality is clearly improved compared to past releases, just like “THE BEST OF ~”, so it can be said that it is a necessary CD for core enthusiasts. There may be some people who feel nostalgic about the earlier “Sundance” jam. “SHOKAN” also included a different mix of jams, but as expected, it was Omit. You don’t usually hear about different jam mixes, do you? LOL In this way, although the content is strictly for enthusiasts, it is also true that it is an important two-disc set for those who want to complete it as a reference material.
