Description

A Jimi Hendrix release that makes you want to call it the 1969 festival. Therefore, we have prepared a rare live sound source from 1969. It was Madison Square Garden on May 18, 1969. One month before the sudden disbandment of Experience, Jimi and the band reached the peak of their popularity on a night. This venue, which became a hall of fame for rock concerts in the 1970s and 1980s, was just beginning to be used for concerts by major artists. Moreover, their popularity exploded with the huge hit of their masterpiece album “ELECTRIC LADYLAND”. In response to this, the concert was realized during a hugely successful tour that consisted of mostly arenas. This was a time when there were two major official soundboard recordings, the LA Forum in April, and the San Diego Sports Arena, which was about a week after MSG, and unfortunately the soundboard recording for MSG was not realized. Looks like it was. Fortunately, the audience recording remains, and you can get a glimpse of the stage full of glory. That said, it is literally a vintage audience from 1969. It has not reached the level of ease of listening like this Vienna performance. In fact, it is said that Vienna in 1969, where so much sound was recorded, was special. Still, due to the historical value of Experience’s only MSG performance, a CD titled “THE ROMAN COLISEUM” was released only once in the past, but due to the pitch error and the harsh condition of being a copy that was out of the cassette generation, it was too much of an item for enthusiasts. It ends up being. Although it is such an MSG sound source, it is only a popular band performance at a large venue, and there are three types of monaural audience recordings. It can’t be helped that they generally have a rough sound quality that exposes the vintage audience. Therefore, Jimi Mania made full use of those recordings and compiled it into a stereo-like state with this gift. It is unique to maniacs that they do not just compile sound sources, but also collect low generation copies of all the recordings. I repeat, it is still a sound source for enthusiasts with a vintage audience exposed. That’s why the stereo feeling is so amazing. Due to the instability of the original sound source, the stereo position may be reversed between songs, but it still has a surprisingly wide feel, and above all, it is much easier to listen to than each sound source individually. I think that’s something worth mentioning. And the opening of “Lover Man” followed by “Come On (part 1)” is a rare pattern that is the only one in Jimi’s live history. In the first place, the latter performance itself is valuable on the 1969 American tour. The Vienna-like live intro that will be released this time is short and when Jimi starts singing, the large MSG crowd gets excited. You can see how “ELECTRIC LADYLAND” became a big hit from scenes like this. Still, it was proof that the audience could hear Jimi and his friends properly. More than that, the surprising scene from the middle of “Spanish Castle Magic” was that Jimi had already developed the “Villanova Junction” pattern that he played as the finale jam of that Woodstock. In other words, this sound source is not only an experience MSG performance, but is extremely valuable in that it is a show that served as a bridge between Vienna and Woodstock, which will be released this time, in terms of sound. While such valuable performances were heard, each MSG audience could not deny that the sound quality was not good. Please try the stereo sound created by carefully mixing it with headphones!
