Description

The “CATFISH RISING” era is a hidden gem of recording even in the long JETHRO TULL. A masterpiece live album that details the scene with the finest sound is now available. This work is recorded in “October 16, 1991 Zurich performance”. It is a superb audience recording. Speaking of the “CATFISH RISING Tour”, there was a change from Martin Alcock to Andrew Giddings in the middle, and the official live albums “IN CONCERT” and “A LITTLE LIGHT MUSIC” were also left. Since the meaning varies depending on the detailed dates, let’s first check the position of the show from the tour schedule. 1991 February 21: New York performances ・June 22-July 20: Europe #1 (20 performances) ・August 20-26: North America #1 (6 performances) 《September 10th “CATFISH RISING” released》 ・October 3-November 1: Europe #2 (23 performances) ←※IN CONCERT & ★This work★ ・November 7-December 17: North America #2 (32 performances) 《Alcock → Giddings replacement》 1992 March 13-April 10: Europe #3 (23 performances ・May 1-23: Europe #4 (17 performances) ←※A LITTLE LIGHT MUSIC June 19: St. Petersburg performance July 24-26 / September 22-25: Europe #6 (7 performances) September 30-November 10: North America #3 (36 performances) This is JETHRO TULL in 1991/1992. The member change occurred in December 1991 when the tour was over, and this work was before that. It was the 10th performance of “Europe #2” held immediately after the album was released. In fact, the official live album “IN CONCERT” was also produced at the Hammersmith performance of “Europe #2”, and this work was also the show 8 days later. This work, which vacuum-packed such a scene, is a superb audience recording with “super” … I think. I’m sorry to suddenly become weak, but it’s a superb sound that is so far from the audience record that I really want to doubt my ears. As expected, the official album “IN It doesn’t have the same thick feel as “CONCERT”, and the sound of the snare and other parts are engraved with evidence of an audience recording. However, the essential details, the clear airiness, and even the closeness without distance are not inferior to the official album. All the beautifully separated instruments are vivid, but Ian Anderson’s vocals are especially amazing. Not only every word of the lyrics, but even the nuances of every syllable are vivid, and you can even feel the breathing flowing into the microphone. When I first heard it…no, even now after listening to it, it’s such a shocking sound that I thought, “Maybe it’s a leaked rough mix of IN CONCERT?!” The super vivid sound depicts a full show that could be called the “complete version of the official IN CONCERT”. Of course, it’s a different performance, but the performance is very similar to the most recent show, and unlike the official work full of cuts, it is a full recording that penetrates all at once. Let’s organize the whole picture here while comparing it with the official work. Catfish Rising (6 songs), Rocks On The Road/This Is Not Love/Like A Tall Thin Girl/White Innocence (★)/Still Loving You Tonight/Doctor To My Disease (★), classics and more: Sunday Impressions: Serenade To A Cuckoo (★), Stand Up: A New Day Yesterday/Look Into The Sun (★), Aqualung: Aqualung (★), Gerald’s Pure World: Thick As A Brick, Mysterious Forest: The Whistler (★), Strong Horses: Heavy Horses, Under Wraps: Paparazzi (★), Crest of a Nave: Farm On The Freeway (★)/Jump Start, Rock Island: Kissing Willie (★), Others: Medley (Minstrel In The Gallery/Cross-Eyed Mary)/Living In The Past (★)/Medley (★: Locomotive Breath/Black Sunday) / The Dambusters March (★) *Note: The ★ mark indicates songs that cannot be heard on the official album “IN CONCERT” from the same period. …And so on. Although a wide range of songs have been selected from their long career, the new songs from “CATFISH RISING” are still valuable. Only “Rocks On The Road” was performed in the 21st century, but the others were only performed in the 90s. In particular, “White Innocence” and “Doctor To My Disease” are tour-only songs that could not be heard on “IN CONCERT”, and “Still Loving You Tonight” is a very rare song that has only been played a handful of times. Even so, the sound is amazing. This is a live album with an incredibly good sound. JETHRO TULL in 1991, which was far from chart hits but had deepened its own blues rock flavor. This is a masterpiece that allows you to fully experience the show with a mountain of precious numbers with superb sound. This is a two-disc set that goes beyond the official version, which was about 53 minutes long and left you feeling frustrated with the official album “IN CONCERT”. A superb audience recording of the “October 16, 1991 Zurich performance”. The fineness of detail, the clear air, and even the closeness without distance are not inferior to the official album. All the beautifully separated instruments are vivid, but Ian Anderson’s vocals are particularly amazing. Not only every word of the lyrics but even the nuance of every syllable is vivid, and you can even feel the breathing flowing into the microphone. This is a superb live album with plenty of precious songs that cannot be heard even in the official work “IN CONCERT”, such as “White Innocence” and “Doctor To My Disease” from “CATFISH RISING”.
