Description
The shocking series “HOT OFF THE HEADS PRODUCTION” has continued to release masterpieces almost every day and has dominated the conversation in the first half of 2020. The latest edition, the JETHRO TULL edition, is now available. What is recorded in this work is “September 12, 1982 Hoffman Estates Performance”. This is the best audience recording. Speaking of 1982, the TV program in which Phil Collins also participated is famous, but in this work, Paul Burgess of 10CC is sitting on the stool. In order to know the circumstances around that, let’s look back at the schedule at that time and check the show’s position.・March 7: Copenhagen performance ・April 1-8: Europe #1a (8 performances)《“THE BROADSWORD AND THE BEAST” released on April 10》 ・April 11-May 28: Europe #1b (31 performances)《Gerry Conway leaves》・July 21st: London performance (with Phil Collins participation)《Paul Burgess participation》・August 28th-September 5th: Europe #2 (4 performances)・September 9th – October 24th: North America (41 performances) ←★Here★ This is JETHRO TULL in 1982. The 1980s could not be called a happy era for them, but 1982 was an active year for them. They released their masterpiece “THE BROADSWORD AND THE BEAST” and held the largest number of live performances in the 1980s. It was a tight schedule, with about 90 performances held over a six-month period from spring to fall. Phil Collins participated as a spot co-star in July, and the drummer changed before and after that. The Hoffman Estates performance of this work was the fourth concert of the final leg “North America” in which Burgess participated. This work recorded at such a show is truly the finest audience recording. Speaking of “HOT OFF THE HEADS PRODUCTION”, it is characterized by the close feeling of a very thick and on core that has almost no sense of distance, and this work seems to be a sample of that. The lively on-site mood is clearly an audience recording, but the important performance sounds and singing voices do not seem like a guest record at all. At first glance, it’s as vivid as an FM broadcast, and if you listen closely, you’ll start to think, “This is a sound board after all!” If you listen carefully with headphones, you can (slightly) hear real hand clapping even during the performance, and you will be impressed by the reality that “This is still an audience recording”…It is such a masterpiece. It is a show that could only exist in 1982, drawn with direct sound that makes the face of “HOT OFF THE HEADS PRODUCTION”. Speaking of the Tei version of this tour, there is also an FM broadcast sound board of the Freiburg performance, so let’s organize the set while comparing. Classics / Sunday Impressions: A Song for Jeffrey (★) / Stand-up: Fat Man (★) / Sweet Dream / Aqualung / Locomotive Breath / Too Old to Rock ‘n’ Roll: Too Young to Die (★)・Mysterious Forest: Hunting Girl/Jack-in-the-Green (★)・Stormwatch: Something’s on the Move (★) 80’s and others・A: Black Sunday・The Broadsword and・The Beast: Fallen on Hard Times/Broadsword/Pussy Willow/Clasp/Too Many Too (★)/Watching Me, Watching You/Beastie (★)/Seal Driver・Others: The Swirling Pit/Instrumental (2 types) * Note: Songs marked with a ★ cannot be heard on the soundboard recording of the Freiburg performance. …and it looks like this. The FM soundboard for the Freiburg performance was an excerpt according to the broadcast schedule, but in this work, the last encore song “Cheerio” was not recorded (apparently it went home before the end of the show. Why!?), so strictly speaking It’s not complete, but everything else is included. The contents include the standard classics, but the core is the number group of the then new work “THE BROADSWORD AND THE BEAST”. Some of the songs, such as “Pussy Willow” and “Seal Driver,” have been played since then, but most of them are extremely rare. There are lots of numbers exclusive to this tour, such as “Fallen on Hard Times,” “Broadsword,” and “Beastie.” Particularly valuable is “Too Many Too.” This song was included in “20 YEARS OF JETHRO TULL”, but it was produced during the “THE BROADSWORD AND THE BEAST” session. It was unreleased at the time, but it was performed live. This is a masterpiece that allows you to experience the precious 1982 show with the best sound of “HOT OFF THE HEADS PRODUCTION” that you will be grateful for just by listening to it.
