Description

What a wonderful thing! A live album that completely reproduces the concept masterpiece “Passion Play” has been born!! It is also the original master by the master Barry Goldstein. If you are a prog rock fan, what can you listen to without listening to this? An absolute new masterpiece is decided to be released! This work is imbued with the “July 21, 1973 Inglewood performance”. It is a superb audience recording that vacuum-packed the whole story. Speaking of “Passion Play”, it is a monument of the total concept established in 1973 along with “Madness” and “Tales of Topographical Oceans”. Not only was it a studio work with one song per album, but a tour was also held to completely reproduce the story world. However, the pattern was never made into a live album, and to this day, collectors have continued to pursue audience recordings in search of a complete experience. This work is a full live album that can be said to be the answer to that. Since it is a good opportunity, let’s start by unraveling the overall picture of the historical story tour and approaching the position of this work. “THICK AS A BRICK Tour” ・January 29th-February 4th: Europe #1 (3 shows) ・March 2nd-26th: Europe #2 (13 shows) “A PASSION PLAY Tour” ・May 4th-June 2nd: North America #1 (22 shows) ・June 22nd-23rd: London (2 shows) ・June 30th-July 13th: North America #2a (12 shows) {A PASSION PLAY released on July 13th} ・July 15th-August 2nd: North America #2b (14 shows) ←★Here★ ・August 26th-September 29th: North America #3 (30 shows) {December 3rd: WAR CHILD production begins} The original cassette by master musician Goldstein has been newly unearthed. This is JETHRO TULL in 1973. Until March, they performed the “THICK AS A BRICK Tour”, but after the album was completed, they switched to the “A PASSION PLAY Tour” in May. They performed a reproduction tour for about five months. Although there were two London performances in between, all the rest were limited to North America. The Inglewood performance of this work was the sixth performance of the main leg, “North America #2”. It was also one week after the album was released. The biggest point of this work is the full show that plays “Passion Play” completely, but the sound that conveys it is also superb. After all, this work was worked on by the virtuoso Barry Goldstein. He is a friend of the absolute virtuoso Mike Millard and a fellow enthusiast who has improved the know-how of audience recording with each other. The sound created from the original cassette is powerful, clear, and beautiful. It is not the type that can be mistaken for a sound board, but that is more of a virtue than a drawback. In the first place, the live itself is a complete reproduction of “Passion Play”, so musically it is almost the same as a studio work. Of course, a bad recording with a fluffy sound is meaningless, but this work is not. The clear and vivid core reaches straight to the ears, and the hall sound gives an exquisite feeling of pouring, and the breath of the audience is also present in the transparent air. Not only is it easy to listen to, but the reality of “experiencing the legendary story tour right now” makes your heart warm. [Passion Play Reproduction + α] Full experience of the legendary tour And the full set is the highlight. Although I made a fuss about the reproduction reproduction from the beginning, in fact, they also play songs other than “Passion Play”. Finally, let’s check the contents of the full show, which was in two parts. Part 1 (DISC 1) Passion Play: Complete reproduction! Part 2 (DISC 2) Aqualung: Cross-Eyed Mary/Aqualung/Wind-Up/Locomotive Breath (Hard-Headed English General) Others: Thick As A Brick/No Rehearsal/Instrumental 1973 was also the “year of concepts”. Rick Wakeman’s “The Six Wives of Henry VIII”, GONG’s “Radio Gnome Trilogy”, LE ORME’s “The Legend of Felona and Solona”, MAGMA’s “To the Cursed Earthlings”, etc. … While story albums spewed out from all over Europe, the monumental works would be “The Dark Side of the Moon” and “Passion Play”, which reached No. 1 in the US. This work is a new masterpiece that can be said to be a live performance version of such a great masterpiece. It is an absolute work that allows you to fully experience a historic tour with the sound of a historic master. This is the greatest pleasure of music archives, this is a cultural heritage. A superb audience recording of the “July 21, 1973 Inglewood Performance” where you can experience the “Passion Play” reenactment tour. A powerful and clear recording on the original cassette by virtuoso Barry Goldstein, who is also Millard’s recording partner. Not only is it beautiful, but the feeling of pouring and realism is wonderful, and the feeling of “I am experiencing the legendary story tour right now” is heartwarming. This is an absolute cultural heritage album that allows you to fully experience the historic tour with the sound of a historic master.
