Jesse Davis / The World of Jesse Davis Reel Master

The debut solo album of legendary Native American guitarist Jesse Ed Davis recorded from the real master reel! The MVR Archives Department has kept the super rare real master reel of the solo album recorded in London in 1970 by Jesse Ed Davis, a legendary guitarist of L.A. Swamp who was a member of the Taj Mahal Band and was also friends with John Lennon, George Harrison, and the Faces! In addition to the two reels with the full album tracks on sides 1 and 2, one reel contains three songs that were probably produced as single candidates, and one reel contains a super rare mono mix of “Washita Love Child” edited for a promo single. There are four reel masters in total. This first solo album is famous for the full participation of Eric Clapton, and on “Washita Love Child,” where his playing is prominent, you can hear a wonderful solo that is full of Clapton’s skill and momentum from this period (Derek & the Dominos era). The other songs that he played a strong supporting role on make this an excellent album that exudes the simplicity and warmth of L.A. swamp that is so characteristic of Davis. The public’s evaluation of his second album “U-L-L” seems to be higher, but I can say with confidence that this solo debut is a masterpiece in which his unique sense was inspired by Clapton’s playing. “GOLDEN SUN GODDESS” in particular is a really good song.
