Description
Jeff Beck has returned to Japan with the female duo “BONES”. Their fresh sound has been a hot topic in many places, and this is the second installment of the latest report. A live album set of two shows in Tokyo from the ongoing Japan tour has been released. This work contains “January 30th + 31st, 2017: Tokyo International Forum”. It is a four-disc set with “January 30th” on discs 1 and 2, and “January 31st” on discs 3 and 4. There is a release rush this week, so be sure to check the schedule.・January 25: Pacifico Yokohama “YOKOHAMA 2017” ・January 26: Sendai Sun Plaza ・January 28: Iwate Prefectural Civic Hall ・January 30 + 31: Tokyo International Forum [This work] ・February 2: Grand Cube Osaka ・February 3: Fukuoka Sunpalace ・February 4: Hiroshima Ueno Gakuen Hall ・February 6: Nagoya City Public Hall ・February 7: Amashin Archaic Hall In this way, this tour traversed the archipelago with a total of 10 performances. Last week, we reported on the first day of the Yokohama performance at the earliest, and this work is the Tokyo edition that follows. This work is a compilation of works by the same recorder. This recorder is familiar to us at our store and is one of the leading masters of the Kanto region. His skills are fully demonstrated in this work, and it is a special edition in his collection. This is a type of recording called “like a sound board”, and the sound is so strong that it is almost in front of you with no sense of distance. The deep bass is particularly wonderful. In general, the bass tends to be a weak point in audience recordings, but this work is so powerful that it is almost scary. It even realistically captures the feeling of the floor of the Tokyo International Forum shaking. Of course, the mid- and high-pitched sounds are wonderful because they are not buried in the deep bass. At the Yokohama performance, foreign customers were making a lot of noise, but this work has a sound that is typical of Japanese performances dominated by “silence and Jeff”. In addition to such sound, this work is also beautiful as a collection. Although it is the same taper, the same equipment, and the same venue, the seats are actually very similar. The recording position is an important factor in audience recording, and each recorder takes all possible measures to secure the sweet spot. For that reason, there is a high competition rate for seats with good acoustics, and it is almost impossible to get the “same seat” even in consecutive performances. However, this recorder miraculously succeeded in securing “almost the same seat”. Although the exact position was not told to me, it was roughly “slightly to the right of the 15th row of the first floor seats”. Although it varies depending on the venue, this “near the 15th row (not exactly the 15th row, but a guideline)” is a distance where the musical sound approaches without time lag and there is little wraparound. This work is a live set whose merits can be heard at a fixed point observation throughout the two performances. And the two Tokyo performances depicted with that fixed point sound are very similar even to the contents of the show. The Yokohama performance was a short show because it was the first day in a long time, but the number of songs has increased in Tokyo, which is the 4th and 5th performances, and the degree of completion has increased dramatically. Let’s check the changes in the set list here. [Song order change] “Thugs Club” and “The Ballad Of The Jersey Wives”, “A Day In The Life” and “Going Down” [Changed songs] “Rollin’ And Tumblin'”: Yokohama (1/25) and Morioka (1/28) only “Goodbye Pork Pie Hat”: Sendai (1/26) onwards “Brush With The Blues”: Sendai (1/26) onwards “Blue Wind”: Tokyo (1/30) onwards (Note: as of February 3rd) The timing of this nonsense is the last day, and we don’t know until the final performance, but the changes at this time are as above. Aside from the small changes in song order, songs are added as the live progresses. From the second performance (Sendai), a medley of “Goodbye Pork Pie Hat / Brush With The Blues” was played, and from the first day of Tokyo on this work, “Blue Wind” was played. For now, there have been no changes to the set from here, and it is a show at the moment when it is “solidified”. Of course, that sense of satisfaction is also reflected in the performance itself. The show flows smoothly, and the vocal and instrumental songs sung by Rosie Bones and Jimmy Hall create a wonderful ups and downs. In particular, Jeff’s guitar sings and dances smoothly as if to confirm that “this is a good flow.” With female and male vocals, Jeff’s guitar sometimes collides and sometimes dances teasingly. This is a four-disc set of vacuum-packed “2017 JEFF BECK GROUP”, which has finally begun to show its true potential. Not only is it the same venue, the same taper, and the same equipment, but the seats are almost the same, making it a completely fixed-point superb collection. Please enjoy it to your heart’s content.
