Description
In 2003, Jeff Beck went on the road with the “GUITAR SHOP TRIO” of Terry Bozzio and Tony Hymas, bringing with him the bold work “JEFF”. This super-excellent live album is now available. This work contains the “Lewiston performance on September 1, 2003”. At the time, the coupling tour with B.B. King became a hot topic, and this concert was the 25th performance. The biggest point of this work is the tremendous sound quality. It’s like a sound board…or rather, it’s really a sound board sound. In fact, it’s an ALD recording that has only recently appeared. ALD (Assistive Listening Device) is a line sound that clearly delivers sounds that are difficult to hear. It is also used for speeches at lectures, but some concert venues have them installed for the hearing impaired. When recording from such equipment, you can record a sound board sound directly connected to the desk with no audience noise. It’s not just a “direct feeling” but a direct ALD recording, but it often has its quirks. The mix is somehow unnatural, or mono. In that sense, it is a recording similar to IEMs. However! This work does not have any of the drawbacks of ALD recording. The direct connection feeling, which is the taste of ALD, is fully enjoyed, while being firmly separated into stereo, and the mix is natural. This tour is also recorded as the official album “LIVE: B.B. KING BLUES CLUB & GRILL, NEW YORK”, and it boasts more than enough quality as a sister edition (by the way, the official edition was recorded on September 10th. This work was recorded 9 days before that). Moreover, the sound also includes “Sling Shot”, which is not included in “LIVE: B.B. KING BLUES CLUB & GRILL”. It is a soundboard album that is happy with such a full recording, but what is more is the “immersion”. The official edition has the cheers dubbed, and the mix and mastering are polished, but on the contrary, this work has an overwhelming “rawness” of recording. Moreover, the sound is irresistible because the main character is “GUITAR SHOP TRIO”. Jeff’s whimsical guitar captures not only the picking nuances, but also the sound of fingerprints rubbing against the guitar strings, and the virtuosity of Posio & High Mass is super detailed down to each note… no, even more. One note rises, peaks, and disappears. The whole flow is poured directly into your ears. It feels as if your head has become an amplifier, and that “GUITAR SHOP TRIO” is battling right now in your brain. There is a “sense of immersion” that goes beyond even the sense of closeness and direct connection. The wonderful thing about the show is that you get absorbed in that sound… The new songs at the time, such as “Seasons” and “My Thing”, are fresh, but “GUITAR SHOP” such as “Big Block”, “Savoy”, “Where Were You”, and “Sling Shot” are the best. The performance of the three originators is lively and dynamic like a fish in water, and the arm technique of “Where Were You” is also impressive. In addition, “Freeway Jam” which was played for the first time in a long time, “Nadia” where Posio’s drumming shines, “You Never Know” and “People Get Ready” where high mass is active, etc. The ensemble of these three people explodes with the sound in your head. It is a masterpiece of a live album that is full of the taste of ALD recording, but is drawn with even higher quality sound. The super pleasure of the real “GUITAR SHOP TRIO” entering your brain.
