Description

In 1999, Jeff Beck broke new ground with his first original work in 10 years, “WHO ELSE!”. Introducing a 4-disc set that allows you to experience the show at its finest. There are two performances included in this work. This is a 4-disc set containing full audience recordings of “March 20, 1999 Boston Performance” and “March 21, 1999 Wallingford Performance”. At that time, we conducted the largest full-scale tour in the 90s. The pattern was also left in the official bootleg “LIVE IN TOKYO 1999”. First, let’s check the show’s position from the schedule. [“WHO ELSE!” released on March 16th] ・March 15th – April 18th: North America #1 (22 performances) ←★Here★ ・May 23rd – June 3rd: Japan (9 performances)・August 13th – September 28th: North America #2 (24 performances) ・October 9th + 10th: UK (2 performances) This is the outline of the 1999 tour. In Jeff’s case, it is difficult to say for certain because tour dates are somewhat unclear, but his active live activities of over 50 performances are even said to be “since WIRED.” It was an energetic period that only happens once every 10 years in his career. The two performances of this work are the start dash of such a tour. This was the 5th and 6th concert of “North America #1”. This work recorded at such a show is truly the best. The recording of these two performances has been known since those days, but this work is different from that and has appeared in the past few years. This is a sister work recorded by two taper friends, and is the ultimate generation that was digitized directly from the original cassette. Its freshness is so vivid that it instantly wakes up your eyes. All the instruments are as beautiful as if they were recorded yesterday. The drums with clear outlines, the bass that is plump but not blurred or blurred, and the interaction between Jennifer Batten and the great Jeff Beck approach your ears with a very thick core. And what is amazing is the direct feeling. There’s no mistaking it for a sound board because of the lively applause, but if you’re concentrating on the sound of the performance, you might be mistaken. There is no blurring or clouding of the hall sound, and you can clearly enjoy even the smallest details. What is spelled out with such a sound is a full show of the new Jeff Beck who boldly introduced a techno sound. As mentioned above, this tour is also left in “LIVE IN TOKYO 1999”, so let’s compare and organize the sets of the two performances. 70’s/80’s・BLOW BY BLOW: Cause We’ve Ended As Lovers・WIRED: Led Boots (★)/Blue Wind・THERE & BACK: Star Cycle/The Pump/You Never Know・GUITAR SHOP: Savoy/Where Were You (★) / Big Block / Sling Shot (★: 20th only) 90’s / WHO ELSE!: What Mama Said / Psycho Sam / Brush With The Blues / Blast From The East / Declan / THX 138 / Space For The Papa /Angel (Footsteps)/Even Odds・Others: A Day In The Life (Beatles) *Note: Songs marked with “★” cannot be heard on “LIVE IN TOKYO 1999”. …and it looks like this. The album is about a 50/50 mix of classics and new songs from “WHO ELSE!”, with all songs except “Hip-Notica” and “Another Place” being big hits. The Beatles’ “A Day In The Life”, which is now familiar, was also seen for the first time on this tour. And even more than that, it’s a fresh ensemble. “WHO ELSE!” was the beginning of the electronica/techno rock sound that continued after that, but this work was a live performance less than a week after the release of the new work. The dynamic feeling that resonates from the 6th string is sharp and clear. Even the backing members, who go out of their way to call themselves “talented,” seem silly, and are full of the energy of a starting point. There is a swirl of passion that cannot be contained in words such as “electronica/techno rock.” In 1999, Jeff was trying out a new sound with his first new album in 10 years, and was pushing forward with his biggest touring schedule since the 1970s. The start dash seemed to be different from the early stages of the tour. A luxurious 4-disc set where you can enjoy the two full-stage performances with the best sound. Orpheum Theatre, Boston, MA.
