Description

In the spring of 1977, to coincide with the release of Jeff Beck’s new album “Live Wire” (“Jeff Beck with the Jan Hammer Group Live”), the FM radio program “Suntory Music Scope” broadcast Jeff Beck special for three days from April 11th to 13th, and each episode is recorded in full for a total of 1 hour and 30 minutes (Disc 1 records the first and second days, and Disc 2 records the third day). This is a rare project that proceeds while interweaving the passionate words of five guitarists representing Japan at the time about Jeff. The tape used was recorded by a maniac at the time and carefully stored. The sound quality is so good that you can’t help but mistake it for a direct drop of the broadcast station reel master. The host DJ’s light-hearted narration, the words of praise for Jeff spoken in the young voices of famous guitarists, and the occasional radio commercials that are inserted, reminiscent of that nostalgic era. This is a very fun album that will take you back to the spring of 1977, with the atmosphere of that time intact. The opinions of each guitarist are varied, from those who, as fans, declare straightforwardly that “Jeff Beck is the best in the world,” to those who calmly analyze, “I feel like he’s caught up with what John McLaughlin and others are doing these days. And yet, I like his heavy, gritty style, not the soft sound that’s popular these days.” “I think it’s very difficult to do something easy to understand with that type of music. It’s amazing that he doesn’t get eaten up by Jan Hammer and the like. Even when he plays simple phrases, the weight of them is completely different.” I especially enjoyed the following comment from a certain guitarist, which I felt captured Jeff’s charm quite universally, so I’ll write it down at the end. (Disc 1 TRK26) “Musically speaking, rather than talking about scales, it’s more like playing the phrases that I felt at the time more dynamically on the guitar. So, rather than thinking about music, I think it’s good to enjoy his power and beautiful tone. When it comes to beautiful ballads, he creates an unbelievable beautiful sound with the guitar, and when it comes to songs with a beat, he pushes forward with that powerful sound. As a guitarist, there’s nothing more to say.” Even now, 36 years later, Jeff Beck is still at the forefront of entertaining fans all over the world. An original radio program where you can enjoy the timeless charm of his radio program from 1977. A high-quality 2-disc title that is a must-have for Jeff collectors.
