Description

In the spring of 1972, JEFF BECK GROUP entered its second stage, producing the masterpiece “Orange Album” that deepened its admiration for black music, and finally showing its true potential. A valuable live album recording their passionate performance after just returning to the road has been decided to be released. This work includes “May 18, 1972 Boston Performance”. This is a masterpiece audience recording. Although this recording has been known for a long time, it was previously said to be “May 1st” and has been known as the “Orange Album Release Date Recording.” However, as research has progressed, the theory that it was actually May 18th has become popular. The second generation of JBG made its public appearance in August 1971, but after just a short European/North American tour until November, they immediately entered the studio. Until the beginning of the year, February 1972, he devoted himself to the production of “Orange Album.” They started touring again in May, when their new album was released. The Boston performance of this work was the early stage concert. This work, which records such a show, is a famous recording that is not only valuable but also known for its wonderful sound. Actually, it is not a top-class masterpiece because it causes howling in some places, but the basic quality is press-grade. The best thing about it is the clear air and the active core. The powerful core flies into your hands through the transparent space, and thanks to its transparency, the details are vivid. There is almost no sense of distance, and a powerful and mellow ensemble is showered on you. Moreover, this work is the highest peak of such famous recordings. Although it is not possible to eliminate howling, we were able to maximize the potential of the original sound through careful mastering. Pitch is accurately corrected for disturbances of less than 1%, and even large phase deviations are just corrected. The left and right stereo balance was also adjusted to the center, making the musical work much more complete. What is depicted with that sound is exactly the essence of the second period JBG. Bob Tench’s rich singing voice is rich and powerful, and Jeff’s guitar is in control but plays freely (like the scream-like sound of “Tonight I’ll Be Staying Here With You”). is amazing). And Cozy Powell’s drumming! Later on in RAINBOW, the firm and powerful sound was described as “like hitting a drum can”, and the force of the double bass hits is truly a heavy tank. Still, the variety of phrases that are completely different from RAINBOW and later, which are all about power, are wonderful. She reacts quickly to Jeff’s whims and interjects her singing side, making it feel like she’s having a conversation with Jeff. Of course, Max Middleton and Clive Charman are amazing, but Koji is on par with Jeff. The clear sound clearly shows that he was the key to the second JBG. And don’t miss the set. The second JBG’s “BBC IN CONCERT” and “DEFINITIVE ROUNDHOUSE” will also appear, but you can also enjoy “Glad All Over” and “Situation” which cannot be heard there with the finest clear sound. Jeff Beck is close to co-starring with Rod Stewart again. However, I think there are many people who say, “When it comes to Jeff’s songs, it’s the second season!” Unlike the blues rock of the first period and the hard rock of BB&A, the second period of JBG depicted an honest admiration for black music and a mellow sound world. This is a valuable recording that allows you to experience the spring of 1972 when its true potential was demonstrated. It’s not perfect, but it’s a delicious piece. ★Although the live performance is distributed as the May 1st BOSTON performance, according to overseas literature, the May 18th Boston performance seems to be the correct answer. ★The pitch was corrected because it was 0.5% to 1.5% higher. The phase was significantly out of sync, so I quickly corrected it. Center positioning makes it much easier to hear. Although the high frequencies are distorted, the performance is fairly clear and can be heard well. Live at Orpheum Theater, Boston, MA, USA 18th May 1972 TRULY AMAZING/PERFECT SOUND (73:30) 1.
