Description

This is a recording of about an hour of “The Fourth Immortal Rock Artist Series, First and Second Period Jeff Beck Special” broadcast on May 17, 1978 from the legendary rock radio program “Rock On”. The sound quality is as good as if it was dropped directly from the master reel of the broadcasting station. If you check the song title, you will see that it introduces Jeff’s early days to the Jeff Beck Group in a history format. The feud with Mickie Most, the meeting with Rod Stewart, and the path to the second Jeff Beck Group are explained with songs, and although it is full of loving comments about Jeff, it is very interesting in a sense to describe BBA as “a detour to the masterpiece “The Return of the Guitar Murderer”” and to call “Rough And Ready” “This album titled “Shoddy Production”. Also, Jeff Beck and Zeppelin’s You Shook Me were broadcast as a medley, and the straightforward explanations were also interesting to listen to. (From the beginning, in line with the usual light-hearted theme of “Rock On,” he greeted, “This is a special feature on Jeff Beck, who was forced to have the most unfortunate rock career. I would like to listen to his difficult journey by focusing on the Jeff Beck Group.”) At the end, as a postscript, he said that there were rumors that he would come to Japan in mid- to late-July, which probably means his visit in November 1978. In any case, the hour-long Jeff Beck special on the radio in 1978 is definitely a must-listen for fans. There is almost no air check noise, and it is an enjoyable album with surprisingly high sound quality. Broadcast Date: 17th May 1978 1. Intro 2. Greensleeves 3. DJ Intro. 4. Beck’s Bolero 5. MC 6.
