Description

Jeff Beck’s collaboration with the female duo “BONES”, which no one had ever imagined, was a shock. Even after listening to the new album “LOUD HAILER”, there was no denying the doubts in his heart, but the Japan tour dispelled them with a fresh and “Jeff is Jeff after all” show. We have reported on such performances in Japan with many masterpiece live albums, and the final one is here. This work includes the “February 6, 2017: Nagoya City Public Hall” performance. This tour is roughly divided into three blocks, and this is the masterpiece that represents the final part. Now, let’s take a look at the block division and position by schedule. [Opening block: daily set (3 performances)] ・January 25th: Pacifico Yokohama “YOKOHAMA 2017” ・January 26th: Sendai Sunplaza “SENDAI 2017” ・January 28th: Iwate Prefectural Civic Center [Middle block: fixed set (4 performances)] ・January 30th: Tokyo International Forum “TOKYO 2017 1ST NIGHT” ・January 31st: Tokyo International Forum “LIVE IN TOKYO 2017” ・February 2nd: Grand Cube Osaka “OSAKA 2017” ・February 3rd: Fukuoka Sunpalace [Final block: daily set (3 performances)] ・February 4th: Hiroshima Ueno Gakuen Hall ・February 6th: Nagoya City Public Hall [This work] ・February 7th: Amashin Archaic Hall *Note: Only representative works are featured at each performance. That’s a total of 10 performances. It can be divided into 3 shows, 4 shows, and 3 shows. The key point is the “set list.” This time, there was one performance in Korea before coming to Japan, but that was the first show of 2017. As the “latest type JEFF BECK GROUP”, it was the first restart in three months since October 2016. Immediately after the Korean performance, they came to Japan. This was also reflected in the set, and in the first three performances (opening block), they repeatedly made fine adjustments and searched for the “latest type of show”. After that, a solidified form was completed, and they improved their level of skill over four performances (middle block). However, Jeff, who is fickle, could not be satisfied with the same composition forever, and in the last three performances (final block), he changed again and made the show fresh. Until now, the albums we have introduced in our shop are only “opening” and “middle” blocks. Recordings have not appeared for a long time from the “final block” where there are many local performances. However, that is over now. This work is a superb audience album that represents the “final block” where the restarted band’s proficiency has improved and you can enjoy the daily changes. In this way, it was “West Japan’s Strongest Taper” who made this work, which has a special meaning even in the tour. “OSAKA 2017” that we delivered the other day was also a work by “Strongest”, but I was moved by the wonderfulness of the show. It seems that the original plan was changed from Osaka only to Nagoya. Also, the other day’s “NAGOYA 2017: THE VIDEO” was also filmed by “Strongest”, but is it a different master? While the shooting happened to be wonderful as a hobby, this work is a dedicated recording challenged with high-end equipment that was set up precisely as usual. The quality is amazing, surpassing even the wonderful “OSAKA 2017”. As you can see from the gift DVDR “NAGOYA 2017: THE VIDEO”, the recording position was on the second floor, but it was so on and direct that it was hard to believe, and the detailed details that could be called “like a sound board” were thrust in front of me. Of course, the solid core and the lustrous sound are super first-class. The details are so detailed that you can even hear the electrical noise of the on-site PA, “Shhh”. It’s amazing that the scene is so silent that you can hold your breath and keep it quiet, but it’s a super-excellent recording that you can even feel the breath. The show depicted with that sound is also fun to play with the “final block”. In the previous Hiroshima performance, “Lonnie On The Move” was replaced with “You Never Know” (Rhonda Smith & Jonathan Joseph are still amazing…), but in Nagoya, “Little Wing” was added. Although the show is not completely changed, the perfection of the “middle stage” set is intact, and the “twist” nuance is very good. It can also be felt in terms of performance. In the first place, it is fresh just to be entangled with Rosie Bones’ coquettish female voice, but the phrases show more room to play and a forward-leaning enthusiasm, increasing the “ticklish” feeling. The whole work is a fulfilling performance that goes beyond simply “having a lot of songs and being profitable”. Jeff joined the band at the end of the Japan performance, and no plans for subsequent live performances have been announced. In other words, this work is not only one superb live album, but also the final form of the “2017 JEFF BECK GROUP”. Will he further deepen his collaboration with “BONES” or aim for new horizons? In any case, this work is the latest Jeff Beck at this point. It is one that you can fully enjoy in the best and real time.
